Aggregation of Sponge Cells
TL;DR: From the cell membranes of the sponge Geodia cydonium a component was isolated and purified which inhibits the aggregation factor isolated from the same source; the component was termed anti-aggregation receptor.

Identification and properties of the cell membrane bound leucine aminopeptidase interacting with the potential immunostimulant and chemotherapeutic agent bestatin
G. Leyhausen,D.K. Schuster,P. Vaith,Rudolf K. Zahn,H. Umezawa,Dietrich Falke,W. E. G. Müller +6 more
TL;DR: Kinetic parameters indicate that cellular AP is identical to Leu-APm, and to rule out the possibility that AP-B is involved in the inhibition reactions, comparable studies with amastatin were performed.

Aggregation of sponge cells. Function of a lectin in its homologous biological system.
TL;DR: Competition experiments showed that the lectin inactivates the antiaggregation receptor by binding to it, most likely via its terminal galactose residues.

Sponge aggregation factor and sponge hemagglutinin: Possible relationships between two different molecules
TL;DR: The elution behaviour of the lectin on Biogel suggests that GL exists as an oligomeric molecule in its native state and two major hypotheses for a biological role of GL are discussed: first, the cooperation of GL with AF in sorting-out processes of GEODIA cells and second, the possibility that GL is involved in defense mechanisms.
