Prognostic Value of National Comprehensive Cancer Network Lung Cancer Resection Quality Criteria.
Raymond U. Osarogiagbon,Meredith Ray,Nicholas Faris,Matthew P. Smeltzer,Carrie Fehnel,Cheryl Houston-Harris,Raymond S. Signore,Laura McHugh,P. Levy,Lynn Wiggins,Vishal Sachdev,Edward T. Robbins +11 more
TL;DR: Attainment of NCCN surgical quality guidelines was low, but improving, over the past decade in this cohort from a high lung cancer mortality region of the United States, and the N CCN quality criteria, especially the nodal examination criteria, were strongly associated with survival.

Outcomes After Use of a Lymph Node Collection Kit for Lung Cancer Surgery: A Pragmatic, Population-Based, Multi-Institutional, Staggered Implementation Study
Raymond U. Osarogiagbon,Matthew P. Smeltzer,Nicholas Faris,Meredith Ray,Carrie Fehnel,Phillip Ojeabulu,O. Akinbobola,Meghan Meadows-Taylor,Laura McHugh,Ahmed M. Halal,P. Levy,Vishal Sachdev,D. Talton,Lynn Wiggins,Xiao-Ou Shu,Yu Shyr,Edward T. Robbins,Lisa M. Klesges +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the impact of a lymph node specimen collection kit on lung cancer surgery outcomes in a prospective, population-based, staggered implementation study and found that lymph node collection kit significantly improved pathologic nodal staging quality, with a trend toward survival improvement, without excessive perioperative morbidity or mortality.

Effectiveness of Implemented Interventions on Pathologic Nodal Staging of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Meredith Ray,Nicholas Faris,Matthew P. Smeltzer,Carrie Fehnel,Cheryl Houston-Harris,P. Levy,Lynn Wiggins,Vishal Sachdev,Todd Robbins,David M. Spencer,Raymond U. Osarogiagbon +10 more
TL;DR: The combined effect of two interventions to improve pathologic lymph node examination has a greater effect on attainment of a range of surgical quality criteria than either intervention alone.

Evolution in the Surgical Care of Patients With Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in the Mid-South Quality of Surgical Resection Cohort.
Nicholas Faris,Matthew P. Smeltzer,Fujin Lu,Carrie Fehnel,Nibedita Chakraborty,Cheryl Houston-Harris,E. Todd Robbins,Raymond S. Signore,Laura McHugh,B. Wolf,Lynn Wiggins,P. Levy,Vishal Sachdev,Raymond U. Osarogiagbon +13 more
TL;DR: A quality improvement intervention including a lymph node specimen collection kit shows early signs of having a significant positive effect on pathologic nodal examination in this population-based cohort, however, gaps in surgical quality remain.

Survival Before and After Direct Surgical Quality Feedback in a Population-Based Lung Cancer Cohort
Matthew P. Smeltzer,Nicholas Faris,Meredith Ray,Carrie Fehnel,Cheryl Houston-Harris,P. Ojeabulu,O. Akinbobola,Yu-Sheng Lee,Meghan Meadows,R. Samuel Signore,Lynn Wiggins,D. Talton,E. Owen,Lawrence Deese,R. Eubanks,B. Wolf,P. Levy,E. Todd Robbins,Raymond U. Osarogiagbon +18 more
TL;DR: Overall survival after surgical resection improved significantly in a high lung cancer mortality region of the United States and may include better selection of patients for pneumonectomy and more thorough staging.
