Fibrin structure and wound healing
TL;DR: Fibrin sealants have been investigated as matrices to promote wound healing and are important determinants of angiogenesis and differ in their cell growth stimulation, clotting rate, and fibrin polymerization characteristics.

Angiopoietin-2, permeability oedema, occurrence and severity of ALI/ARDS in septic and non-septic critically ill patients
M. van der Heijden,G.P. van Nieuw Amerongen,P. Koolwijk,Victor W.M. van Hinsbergh,A. B. J. Groeneveld +4 more
TL;DR: Circulating angiopoietin-2 is associated with pulmonary permeability oedema, occurrence and severity of ALI/ARDS in patients with and without sepsis, and the correlation of angiopOiet in-2 with VWF suggests activated endothelium as a common source.

Unfractionated and Low Molecular Weight Heparin Affect Fibrin Structure and Angiogenesis in Vitro
Annemie Collen,Susanne M. Smorenburg,E.J.G. Peters,Florea Lupu,P. Koolwijk,C. J. F. Van Noorden,Victor W.M. van Hinsbergh +6 more
TL;DR: The inhibitory effect of heparins on proliferation of hMVECs is demonstrated and a novel mechanism by which LMWH may affect tumor progression is provided, namely reduced ingrowth of microvascular structures in a fibrinous stroma matrix by rendering it less permissive for invasion.

Activated gelatinase-B (MMP-9) and urokinase-type plasminogen activator in synovial fluids of patients with arthritis. Correlation with clinical and experimental variables of inflammation.
P. Koolwijk,André M. M. Miltenburg,M. G. M. Van Erck,M. Oudshoorn,M. J. Niedbala,Ferdinand C. Breedveld,Victor W.M. van Hinsbergh +6 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that the presence of gelatinase-B is a reflection of the inflammatory condition of the joints of patients with arthritis, and that the activation of gelatin enzyme-B in the joints, which may occur in a u-PA/plasmin dependent and/or a stromelysin dependent way, contributes to the progression of arthritis.
