Risk factors for cardiovascular death after elective surgery under general anaesthesia.
TL;DR: A large epidemiological data set was used to identify 115 patients who died from a cardiovascular cause within 30 days of elective surgery under general anaesthesia and a prognostic model was generated.

Haemodynamic responses to enflurane anaesthesia and hypovolaemia in the dog, and their modification by propranolol
TL;DR: In six dogs chronically implanted with flow and pressure transducers, equipotent inspired concentrations of halothane and isoflurane were determined as the minimum inspried concentration of each agent which would abolish an individual dog's response to paw clamping.

Fentanyl protects the heart against ischaemic injury via opioid receptors, adenosine A1 receptors and KATP channel linked mechanisms in rats.
TL;DR: Fentanyl protected the heart against post-ischaemic injury by a mechanism which was blocked by an opioid and an adenosine A1 receptor antagonist and also by a KATP channel antagonist.

Statin therapy : a potentially useful peri-operative intervention in patients with cardiovascular disease
TL;DR: Peri‐operative statin administration has been shown to improve both short‐term and long‐term cardiac outcome following non‐cardiac and coronary bypass graft surgery, and cardioprotection may be independent of peri-operative haemodynamics due to a positive effect on plaque stability.
