The PHOBOS Perspective on Discoveries at RHIC

Hadron-hadron (h-h) collisions at high energies are investigated in the ultra-relativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) approach. This microscopic transport model describes the phenomenology of hadronic interactions at low and intermediate energies ( 5 GeV, the excitation of colour strings and their subsequent fragmentation into hadrons dominates the multiple production of particles in the UrQMD model. The model shows a fair overall agreement with a large body of experimental h-h data over a wide range of h-h centre-of-mass energies. Hadronic reaction data with higher precision would be useful to support the use of the UrQMD model for relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Relativistic hadron-hadron collisions in the ultra-relativistic quantum molecular dynamics model

We describe in detail how the different components of a multiphase transport (AMPT) model that uses the heavy ion jet interaction generator (HIJING) for generating the initial conditions, Zhang's parton cascade (ZPC) for modeling partonic scatterings, the Lund string fragmentation model or a quark coalescence model for hadronization, and a relativistic transport (ART) model for treating hadronic scatterings are improved and combined to give a coherent description of the dynamics of relativistic heavy ion collisions. We also explain the way parameters in the model are determined and discuss the sensitivity of predicted results to physical input in the model. Comparisons of these results to experimental data, mainly from heavy ion collisions at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, are then made in order to extract information on the properties of the hot dense matter formed in these collisions.

Relativistic Hadron-Hadron Collisions in the Ultra-Relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics Model (UrQMD)

We develop a complete and consistent description for the hadron spectra from heavy ion collisions in terms of a few collective variables, in particular temperature, longitudinal, and transverse flow. To achieve a meaningful comparison with presently available data, we also include the resonance decays into our picture. To disentangle the influences of transverse flow and resonance decays in the ${\mathit{m}}_{\mathit{T}}$ spectra, we analyze in detail the shape of the ${\mathit{m}}_{\mathit{T}}$ spectra.

Thermal phenomenology of hadrons from 200-A/GeV S+S collisions

We report on a study of inclusive particle production in pp-interactions at 400 GeV/c. The data are based on 472 K reconstructed events recorded in the NA 27 experiment using the LEBC-EHS facility at CERN. The production cross sections are determined of pseudo scalar (π±,0, η andK±), scalar (f0(975)), vector (ρ±,0(770), ω(783), ϕ(1020),K*0(892), and$\bar K^{ * 0} $(892)), and tensorf0 mesons, of protons and antiprotons, and theΔ++,+,0(1232), and Λ(1520) baryon resonances in the forward hemisphere of the center of mass system, as well as longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions. The results are compared with predictions of the FRITIOF model and with other experimental data.
