The decay $B_c^+\to J/\psi K^+$ is observed for the first time using a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 ${\,fb}^{-1}$, collected by the LHCb experiment in $pp$ collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $7\mathrm{\,Te\kern -0.1em V}$. A yield of $46\pm12$ events is reported, with a significance of 5.0 standard deviations. The ratio of the branching fraction of $B_c^+\to J/\psi K^+$ to that of $B_c^+\to J/\psi\pi^+$ is measured to be $0.069\pm0.019\pm0.005$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Using the newly measured masses of ${B}_{c}(1S)$ and ${B}_{c}(2S)$ from the CMS Collaboration and the $1S$ hyperfine splitting determined from the lattice QCD as constraints, we calculate the ${B}_{c}$ mass spectrum up to the $6S$ multiplet with a nonrelativistic linear potential model. Furthermore, using the wave functions from this model we calculate the radiative transitions between the ${B}_{c}$ states within a constituent quark model. For the higher mass ${B}_{c}$ states lying above $DB$ threshold, we also evaluate the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka (OZI) allowed two-body strong decays with the $^{3}{P}_{0}$ model. Our study indicates that there is large potential for the observations of the low-lying ${B}_{c}$ states below the $DB$ threshold via their radiative transitions; in addition, some higher mass ${B}_{c}$ states, such as ${B}_{c}({2}^{3}{P}_{2})$, ${B}_{c}(2^{3}{D}_{1})$, ${B}_{c}({3}^{3}{D}_{1})$, ${B}_{c}(4^{3}{P}_{0})$, and the $1F$-wave ${B}_{c}$ states, might be first observed in their dominant strong decay channels $DB$, $D{B}^{*}$, or ${D}^{*}B$ at the LHC for their relatively narrow widths.

Excited bottom-charmed mesons in a nonrelativistic quark model

The result of a search for the decay B+c→Bosπ+ is presented, using the Bos→Ds-π+ and Bos→J/ψϕ channels. The analysis is based on a data sample of pp collisions collected with the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1  fb-1 taken at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, and 2  fb-1 taken at 8 TeV. The decay B+c→Bosπ+ is observed with significance in excess of 5 standard deviations independently in both decay channels. The measured product of the ratio of cross sections and branching fraction is [σ(Bc+)/σ(Bos)]×B(Bc+→Bosπ+)=[2.37±0.31 (stat)±0.11 (syst)-0.13+0.17(τBc+)]×10-3, in the pseudorapidity range 2<η(B)<5, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the uncertainty on the Bc+ lifetime. This is the first observation of a B meson decaying to another B meson via the weak interaction.

Observation of the decay B+c→Bºsπ+

Along with the running of Large Hadron Collider (LHC) located at CERN in November 2009, a large number of data samples of $$B_c$$
 meson have been collected and some hadronic $$B_c$$
 decay modes have been measured by the LHC experiments. In view of the special and important roles of $$B_c$$
 meson decays playing in the heavy flavor sector, we here give a short review on the status of two body hadronic decays $$B_c \rightarrow M_1 M_2$$
 at both experimental and theoretical aspects. For the theoretical progresses, specifically, we will show lots of theoretical studies on two body hadronic $$B_c$$
 decays involving pseudoscalar, vector, scalar, axial-vector, even tensor meson(s) in the final states by employing the perturbative QCD (pQCD) factorization approach. We will present a general analysis about the two-body hadronic decays of the heavy $$B_c$$
 meson and also provide some expectations for the future developments.

The two-body hadronic decays of B c meson in the perturbative QCD approach: a short review

We study the exclusive nonleptonic two-body ${B}_{c}$ decays within factorization approximation, in the framework of the relativistic independent quark model based on a confining potential in the scalar-vector harmonic form. The relevant weak form factors and branching ratios for different decay modes $({B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}PP,PV,VP)$ are predicted in reasonable agreement with other quark model predictions. We find that the dominant contribution to the ${B}_{c}$-meson lifetime comes from the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Masakawa favored $\overline{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\overline{s}$, $\overline{d}$ decay modes, and the most promising modes are found to be ${B}_{c}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{B}}_{s}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, ${B}_{c}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{B}}_{s}^{0}{\ensuremath{\rho}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and ${B}_{c}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{B}}_{s}^{\ensuremath{\star}0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ with predicted branching ratios of 12.01, 9.96, and 8.61%, respectively, which might be easily detected at the hadron collider in the near future.

Nonleptonic two-body B c -meson decays

We study M1-transitions involving mesons: ${B}_{c}(1s)$, ${B}_{c}^{*}(1s)$, ${B}_{c}(2s)$, ${B}_{c}^{*}(2s)$, ${B}_{c}(3s)$, and ${B}_{c}^{*}(3s)$ in the relativistic independent quark (RIQ) model based on a flavor independent average potential in the scalar-vector harmonic form. The transition form factor for ${B}_{c}^{*}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{B}_{c}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ is found to have analytical continuation from spacelike to physical timelike region. Our predicted coupling constant ${g}_{{B}_{c}^{*}{B}_{c}}=0.34\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{GeV}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ and decay width $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}({B}_{c}^{*}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{B}_{c}\ensuremath{\gamma})=23\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{eV}$ agree with other model predictions. In view of possible observation of ${B}_{c}$ and ${B}_{c}^{*}$ s-wave states at LHC and Z-factory and potential use of theoretical estimate on M1-transitions, we investigate the allowed as well as hindered transitions of orbitally excited ${B}_{c}$-meson states and predict their decay widths in overall agreement with other model predictions. We consider the typical case of ${B}_{c}^{*}(1s)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{B}_{c}(1s)\ensuremath{\gamma}$, where our predicted decay width which is found quite sensitive to the mass difference between ${B}_{c}^{*}$ and ${B}_{c}$ mesons may help in determining the mass of ${B}_{c}^{*}$ experimentally.

Magnetic dipole transitions of B c and B c * mesons in the relativistic independent quark model

We study the exclusive nonleptonic ${B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}VV$ decays, within the factorization approximation, in the framework of the relativistic independent quark model, based on a confining potential in the scalar-vector harmonic form. The weak form factors are extracted from the overlap integral of meson wave functions derived in the relativistic independent quark model. The predicted branching ratios for different ${B}_{c}$-meson decays are obtained in a wide range, from a tiny value of $\mathcal{O}({10}^{\ensuremath{-}6})$ for ${B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{*}{D}_{(s)}^{*}$ to a large value of 24.32% for ${B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{B}_{s}^{*}{\ensuremath{\rho}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, in general agreement with other dynamical-quark-model predictions. The decay modes ${B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{B}_{s}^{*}{\ensuremath{\rho}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and ${B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{B}^{*}{\ensuremath{\rho}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ with high branching ratios of 24.32% and 1.73%, respectively, obtained in this model should be detectable at the LHC and Tevatron in the near future. The $b\ensuremath{\rightarrow}c$, $u$ induced decays are predicted predominantly in the longitudinal mode, whereas the $\overline{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\overline{s}$, $\overline{d}$ induced decays are obtained in a slightly higher transverse mode. The $CP$-odd fractions $({R}_{\ensuremath{\perp}})$ for different decay modes are predicted and those for color-favored ${B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{*}{D}^{*}$, ${D}^{*}{D}_{s}^{*}$ decays indicate significant $CP$ violation in this sector.
