Evaluation the efficacy of bio-agents, application as foliar spray against vegetables foliar diseases incidence was carried out in open greenhouse conditions. The tested bio-agents were Trichoderma harzianum, T. Viride, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas fluorescens and Saccharomyces cerevisiae were evaluated. The recorded foliar diseases, i.e. Powdery, Downy mildews of Cucumber, Cantaloupe and Pepper as well as Early, Late blights of Tomato were significantly reduced at all treat ments either alone or in co mb inations comparing with untreated plants. Application with either T. harzianum and B. subtilis showed significant reduction in diseases incidence comparing with the other applied bio-agents. The other bio-agent treatments, T. viride, P. fluorescens and S. cerevisiae recorded moderate reduction in this concern. On the light of the present study it could be suggested that the usage of bio-agents might be used as easily applied, safely and cost effective control methods against such foliar plant diseases.

Studies on loss assessment, epidemiology and management of powdery mildew of chilli caused by leveillula taurica (lev.)arn.

This study investigated the effectiveness of Trichoderma asperellum (Samuels, Lieckf. & Nirenberg) and Metarhizium anisopliae (Metschn.) Sorokin in controlling pepper powdery mildew. Culture extracts of these fungi inhibited conidial germination in Leveillula taurica (Lev.) G. Arnaud. T. asperellum showed higher chitinolytic activity than that of M. anisopliae. The latter exhibited elevated β-1,3-glucanase activity as compared with that of T. asperellum. In a high-tunnel greenhouse, T. asperellum was more persistent than M. anisopliae. Jalapeno pepper was more vulnerable to powdery mildew than arbol pepper. In the field, the fungi did not control powdery mildew in jalapeno pepper. In arbol pepper, both fungal species reduced disease severity to a level similar to that of a chemical control. T. asperellum and M. anisopliae may be effective in the control of powdery mildew on peppers and could lead to the disuse of pesticides on some but not all types of pepper.

Disease severity was affected by dates of sowing, 7 th November was found significantly superior over 10 th December, 29 th November and 18 th November. Powdery mildew caused by Phyllactinia corylea (Pers.) Karst is a serious disease of mulberry inflicting considerable qualitative as well as quantitative losses. Owing to non eco-friendly nature, toxicity to silkworm, high cost and other side effects of chemical control measures, search for other management strategies devoid of such drawbacks becomes inevitable. In the present study, five biocontrol agents viz., Trichoderma viride, Trichoderma harzianum, Gliocladium roseum, Trichothecium roseum and Chaetomium indicum were evaluated for their efficacy against powdery mildew of mulberry. Culture filtrate of these biocontrol agents were tested in vitro for their fungitoxicant activity against conidial germination of P. corylea. Among the culture filtrate of biocontrol agents tested, both T. viride and T. harzianum @ 50.0% were highly effective and inhibited the conidial germination by 75.08% and 72.23%, respectively. Gliocladium roseum, T. roseum and C. indicum each at 6.25% concentration were the least effective treatments and did not provide more than 11.0% conidial germination inhibition. The in vitro treatments exhibiting conidial germination inhibition of more than 50.0% were also tested in vivo for the management of the disease. Culture filtrates of T. viride and T. harzianum both at 50.0% concentration were equally most effective and were at par with carbendazim 50 wp @ 0.05% by providing 65.14% — 68.68% disease control.

A field experiment was conducted to fint out the effect of culture filtrates of Trichoderma viride, T. harzianum, T. hamatum, T. longiforum and T. koningii on growth parameters besides the Incidence and intensity of powdery mildew of guar. The culture filtrates of Trichoderma spp. alone and in combination were recorded beneficial effect on growth parameters and disease control. In all, the treatment T. viride alone was most effective for the control of powdery mildew of guar.
