Monthly High-Dose Vitamin D Treatment for the Prevention of Functional Decline: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Heike A. Bischoff-Ferrari,Bess Dawson-Hughes,E. John Orav,Hannes B. Staehelin,Otto W. Meyer,Robert Theiler,Walter Dick,Walter C. Willett,Andreas Egli +8 more
TL;DR: Although higher monthly doses of vitamin D were effective in reaching a threshold of at least 30 ng/mL of 25-hydroxyvitamin D, they had no benefit on lower extremity function and were associated with increased risk of falls compared with 24,000 IU.
Calcifediol Versus Vitamin D3 Effects on Gait Speed and Trunk Sway in Young Postmenopausal Women: A Double-Blind Randomized Controlled Trial
Otto W. Meyer,Bess Dawson-Hughes,E. Sidelnikov,Andreas Egli,D. Grob,Hannes B. Staehelin,G. Theiler,Reto W. Kressig,H.-P. Simmen,Robert Theiler,Heike A. Bischoff-Ferrari +10 more
TL;DR: Calcifediol improved gait speed in early postmenopausal women compared with vitamin D3 and change in 25(OH)D level was moderately correlated with improvement in gait speeds, but no effect could be demonstrated for trunk sway.

Statin Use and 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Blood Level Response to Vitamin D Treatment of Older Adults
Heike A. Bischoff-Ferrari,Karina Fischer,Endel J. Orav,Bess Dawson-Hughes,Ursina Meyer,Patricia O. Chocano-Bedoya,Otto W. Meyer,Rahel Ernst,Simeon Schietzel,Franz R. Eberli,Hannes B. Staehelin,Gregor Freystätter,Susanne Roas,Robert Theiler,Andreas Egli,Nicholas M. Wilson +15 more
TL;DR: To determine whether statin use alters response of 25‐hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) level to vitamin D treatment, data are presented on rats treated with statin or statin-free diets for eight weeks.

Prediction of Emergency Department Re-Visits in Older Patients by the Identification of Senior at Risk (ISAR) Screening
Ksenija Slankamenac,Gertraud Haberkorn,Otto W. Meyer,Heike A. Bischoff-Ferrari,Dagmar I. Keller +4 more
TL;DR: It is aimed to establish a comprehensive outpatient geriatric assessment program to identify relevant risk factors for ED re-visits and to recommend preventive strategies in ISAR positive ED seniors.

Outcomes after spinal stenosis surgery by type of surgery in adults aged 60 years and older.
Thomas Degen,Karina Fischer,Robert Theiler,Stefan Schären,Otto W. Meyer,Guido A. Wanner,Patricia O. Chocano-Bedoya,Hans-Peter Simmen,U. D. Schmid,Johann Steurer,H. B. Stähelin,Noemi Mantegazza,Heike A. Bischoff-Ferrari +12 more
TL;DR: Among senior patients undergoing spinal stenosis surgery, recovery was largely complete by 3 to 6 months after surgery and differed little by type of surgery independently of symptoms prior to surgery and other covariates, however a trend toward more improvement in particularly neurological dysfunction and disability with less invasive surgery is documented.
