Gender-dependent impacts of body mass index and moderate alcohol consumption on serum uric acid--an index of oxidant stress status?
TL;DR: The data indicate distinct gender-dependent impacts of alcohol consumption and BMI on serum uric acid, and these findings should be applicable to the assessment of oxidative stress status and associated morbidity in alcohol consumers and individuals with excess body weight.

Generation of aldehyde-derived protein modifications in ethanol-exposed heart.
TL;DR: The role of enhanced lipid peroxidation and the generation of protein-aldehyde condensates in vivo as a result of excessive ethanol intake is supported and may have implications in the molecular mechanisms of cardiac dysfunction in alcoholics.
An inverse relationship between markers of fibrogenesis and collagen degradation in patients with or without alcoholic liver disease.
TL;DR: The present findings indicate a positive relationship between markers of collagen biosynthesis and proinflammatory cytokines, and a negative relationship between these markers and a marker of collagen degradation and anti-inflammatory cytokine, suggesting that a disturbed balance in these cellular responses may facilitate fibrogenesis and play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of ALD.

Method-dependent characteristics of carbohydrate-deficient transferrin measurements in the follow-up of alcoholics.
TL;DR: The data indicate distinct differences and method-dependent rates of normalization in CDT assays, possibly reflecting different degrees of transferrin desialylation in the alcoholics.
Paricalcitol [19-nor-1,25-(OH)2D2] in the treatment of experimental renal bone disease.

TL;DR: It is shown that paricalcitol also ameliorates the renal insufficiency‐induced loss of bone mineral and the mechanical competence of bone.
