TL;DR: An in-depth comparison between these observed vegetation pattern characteristics and predictions made by the extended-Klausmeier model for dryland vegetation patterning suggests that patterned dryland ecosystems may be more resilient to environmental change than previously anticipated, but this enhanced resilience crucially depends on the adaptive capacity of vegetation patterns.

TL;DR: In this paper, the 2-component reaction-diffusion model was recently obtained by a systematic reduction of the 3-component Gilad et al model for dryland ecosystem dynamics, which can be more directly linked to ecological mechanisms and observations.
