Biomonitoring of persistent organochlorine pesticides, PCDD/PCDFs and dioxin-like PCBs in blood of children from South West Germany (Baden-Wuerttemberg) from 1993 to 2003.
B. Link,Thomas Gabrio,Iris Zoellner,Isolde Piechotowski,Olaf Paepke,Thomas Herrmann,Andrea Felder-Kennel,V. Maisner,Karl-Heinz Schick,Monika Schrimpf,Michael Schwenk,Juergen Wuthe +11 more
TL;DR: Blood concentrations of the investigated compounds decreased in that time period by a factor of 2-4 with the exception of most PCDFs, which contributed about 70% to the toxicity of dioxin-like PCBs and about one-third to total TEQ including PCDD/PCDFs.

Vertical profile of PCDD/Fs, dioxin-like PCBs, other PCBs, PAHs, chlorobenzenes, DDX, HCHs, organotin compounds and chlorinated ethers in dated sediment/soil cores from flood-plains of the river Elbe, Germany.
R. Götz,Otto-Heinrich Bauer,Peter Friesel,Thomas Herrmann,Eckard Jantzen,Manfred Kutzke,Raimund Lauer,Olaf Paepke,K. Roch,Udo Rohweder,René Schwartz,Susanne Sievers,Burkhard Stachel +12 more
TL;DR: It can be concluded that similar contaminations will be found in many of the river bank soils between the Bitterfeld-Wolfen region and Hamburg, where in previous decades contaminated dredged sediments from the Elbe and from the Port of Hamburg have been deposited on land and used for building plots or for agricultural purposes.

Contamination of U.S. butter with polybrominated diphenyl ethers from wrapping paper.
Arnold Schecter,Sarah Smith,Justin A. Colacino,Noor Malik,Matthias Opel,Olaf Paepke,Linda S. Birnbaum +6 more
TL;DR: Higher-brominated PBDE congeners were likely transferred from contaminated wrapping paper to butter, and total PBDE daily intake from all food was lower than some previous U.S. dietary intake estimates.

Persistent organic pollutants in 9/11 world trade center rescue workers: reduction following detoxification.
TL;DR: This research includes a pilot evaluation of a detoxification method aimed at reducing toxic burden and argues for a larger treatment study of this method and an overall treatment approach to address toxic burden.

Residential and biological exposure assessment of chemicals from a wood treatment plant.
James Dahlgren,Harpreet Takhar,Arnold Schecter,Reynold Schmidt,Randy D. Horsak,Olaf Paepke,Raphael H. Warshaw,Alexander Lee,Pamela Anderson-Mahoney +8 more
TL;DR: Sampling of household dust and water sediment within and outside of residences within a 2-mile radius of the plant revealed the presence of significantly elevated levels of dioxins, principally octachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (OCDD) and 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-hepta-CDD, which are consistent with exposures to pentachlorophenol in this group of subjects.
