Ångström–Prescott equation: Physical basis, empirical models and sensitivity analysis
Marius Paulescu,Nicoleta Stefu,Delia-Gabriela Calinoiu,Eugenia Paulescu,Nicolina Pop,Remus Boata,Oana Mares +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed the Angstrom-Prescott equation from three different perspectives: (1) the physical basis, (2) the accuracy of the empirical models and (3) the sensitivity to geographical and seasonal factors.

Nowcasting solar irradiance using the sunshine number
Marius Paulescu,Oana Mares,Eugenia Paulescu,Nicoleta Stefu,Angel Pacurar,Delia Calinoiu,Paul Mircea Gravila,Nicolina Pop,Remus Boata,Remus Boata +9 more
TL;DR: An innovative two-state model is proposed: if the sun is shining, the solar irradiance is estimated with an empirical model fitted on historical data; if theSun is covered, the clear sky solar irradiances is adjusted according to the cloud transmittance.

Evaluation of errors made in solar irradiance estimation due to averaging the Angstrom turbidity coefficient
Delia-Gabriela Calinoiu,Nicoleta Stefu,Marius Paulescu,Gavrila Trif-Tordai,Oana Mares,Eugenia Paulescu,Remus Boata,Remus Boata,Nicolina Pop,Angel Pacurar +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the error made in estimating global solar irradiance by using an average value of the Angstrom turbidity coefficient instead of its current value and showed that the relative errors due to inadequate consideration of the turbidity coefficients may be very high, even exceeding 20%.

Quantification of the aerosol-induced errors in solar irradiance modeling
Robert Blaga,Delia Calinoiu,Delia Calinoiu,Nicoleta Stefu,Remus Boata,Andreea Sabadus,Eugenia Paulescu,Nicolina Pop,Oana Mares,Sorin Bojin,Marius Paulescu +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the ability of the clear-sky solar irradiance models to accurately partition the global horizontal solar irradiances into beam and diffuse components, and found that the diffuse fraction has the merit of isolating the uncertainty induced by aerosols in estimating the diffuse component.

Forecasting hourly global solar irradiation using simple non-seasonal models
Angel Pacurar,Nicoleta Stefu,Oana Mares,Eugenia Paulescu,Delia Calinoiu,Nicolina Pop,Remus Boata,Paul Mircea Gravila,Marius Paulescu +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the forecasting of hourly global solar irradiation using simple statistical models, without exogenous inputs, was conducted based on data recorded at Timisoara, Romania, during 2009 and 2010.
