Brain activity during dual-task standing in older adults
Melike Kahya,Natalia Gouskova,O. Lo,Junhong Zhou,Davide Cappon,Emma Finnerty,Alvaro Pascual-Leone,Lewis A. Lipsitz,Jeffrey M. Hausdorff,Brad Manor +9 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors examined the effects of dual-tasking when standing on brain activity in older adults and found that compared to single-task "quiet" standing, dual-task standing would decrease alpha power, which has been linked to decreased motor inhibition, as well as increase the ratio of theta to beta power.
Validity and Reliability of a Smartphone Application for Home Measurement of Four-Meter Gait Speed in Older Adults
Pei-An Lee,Clark DuMontier,Wanting Yu,Levi Ask,Junhong Zhou,Marcia A. Testa,Dae Kim,Gregory Abel,Tom Travison,Brad Manor,O. Lo +10 more
TL;DR: The smartphone App-based assessment of home 4MGS is valid and reliable, allowing for accurate and convenient testing of gait speed in older adults.

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation May Reduce Prefrontal Recruitment During Dual Task Walking in Functionally Limited Older Adults – A Pilot Study
Azizah J. Jor’dan,Hagar Bernad-Elazari,Anat Mirelman,Natalia Gouskova,O. Lo,Jeffrey M. Hausdorff,Brad Manor +6 more
TL;DR: This preliminary fNIRS data suggests that tDCS over the left dlPFC may modulate prefrontal recruitment, as reflected by a relative reduction in the oxygen consumption of this brain region in response to dual task walking.

Network-Based Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation May Modulate Gait Variability in Young Healthy Adults
Rongchao Zhou,Junhong Zhou,Yanwen Xiao,Jiawei Bi,Maria Chiara Biagi,Giulio Ruffini,Natalia Gouskova,Brad Manor,Yu Liu,Jiaojiao Lü,O. Lo +10 more
TL;DR: In healthy young adults, a single exposure to tDCS designed to simultaneously modulate DAN and DN excitability reduced gait variability, yet did not alter gait speed or other average gait metrics, when tested just after stimulation, suggesting thatgait variability may be uniquely regulated by these spatially-distinct yet functionally-connected cortical networks.

Feasibility and Safety of Sequential Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation and Physical Therapy in Older Adults at Risk of Falling: A Randomized Pilot Study
O. Lo,Sarah Charest,Heather Margulis,Lewis A. Lipsitz,Brad Manor +4 more
TL;DR: Preliminary evidence is provided about the feasibility, safety, and challenges to combine PT and tDCS in very frail older adults, suggesting adding a 20-minute session of stimulation immediately prior to PT training sessions, along with pre- and post-assessments is feasible.
