Compact optical convolution processing unit based on multimode interference
X. Meng,Guo Zhen Zhang,Nuannuan Shi,Guang yi Li,José Azaña,José Capmany,Jianping Yao,Yichen Shen,Wei Liu,Ninghua Zhu,Ming Li +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper , a compact on-chip optical convolutional processing unit is fabricated on a low-loss silicon nitride platform to demonstrate its capability for large-scale integration, and three 2 × 2 correlated real-valued kernels are made of two multimode interference cells and four phase shifters to perform parallel convolution operations.

Photonic approach to broadband instantaneous microwave frequency measurement with improved accuracy
TL;DR: In this paper, a photonic approach for instantaneous microwave frequency measurement over a wide bandwidth is proposed and experimentally demonstrated based on the fading effect of the fiber, where three lights with different wavelengths and three sections of optical fiber are used to construct the frequency-dependent amplitude comparison functions (ACFs), using a phase modulation along with an intensity modulation.

Hybrid-integrated wideband tunable optoelectronic oscillator.
Guo Zhen Zhang,Tengfei Hao,Qizhuang Cen,Mingjian Li,Nuannuan Shi,Wei Liu,Xi-ou Xiao,N. D. Qi,Jianji Dong,Yitang Dai,Ninghua Zhu,Ming Li +11 more
TL;DR: In this article , a hybrid-integrated wideband tunable OEO with low phase noise is proposed and experimentally demonstrated, which achieves a high integration level by first integrating a laser chip with a silicon photonic chip, and then connecting the silicon photon chip with electronic chips through wire-bonding to microstrip lines.

A new method for fiber chromatic dispersion measurement with microwave interference effect
TL;DR: In this article, a new method for CD measurement of optical fibers is proposed based on the microwave interference effect, where the radio frequency (RF) signals carried by two light-waves with different wavelengths transmit through dispersive optical fiber under test after photo-detector they interfere with each other due to the different phase shifts induced by the CD of fiber.

Photonics-enabled spiking timing-dependent convolutional neural network for real-time image classification.
TL;DR: A photonics-enabled spiking timing-dependent convolutional neural network is proposed by manipulating photonics multidimensional parameters in terms of wavelength, temporal and spatial, which breaks the traditional CNN architecture mapping from a spatially parallel to a time-dependent series structure.
