Effect of testosterone replacement therapy on prostate tissue in men with late-onset hypogonadism: a randomized controlled trial.
Leonard S. Marks,Norman A. Mazer,Elahe A. Mostaghel,David L. Hess,Frederick Dorey,Jonathan I. Epstein,Robert W. Veltri,Danil V. Makarov,Alan W. Partin,David G. Bostwick,Maria Luz Macairan,Peter S. Nelson +11 more
TL;DR: Preliminary data suggest that in aging men with late-onset hypogonadism, 6 months of TRT normalizes serum androgens levels but appears to have little effect on prostate tissue androgen levels and cellular functions.

Pharmacokinetics, efficacy, and safety of a permeation-enhanced testosterone transdermal system in comparison with bi-weekly injections of testosterone enanthate for the treatment of hypogonadal men
Adrian S. Dobs,A. Wayne Meikle,Stefan Arver,Steven W. Sanders,Kim E. Caramelli,Norman A. Mazer +5 more
TL;DR: Although both treatments seem to be efficacious for replacing T in hypogonadal men, the more physiological sex hormone levels and profiles associated with TTD may offer possible advantages over i.m. in minimizing excessive stimulation of erythropoiesis, preventing/ameliorating gynecomastia, and not over-suppressing gonadotropins.

Drug insight: Testosterone and selective androgen receptor modulators as anabolic therapies for chronic illness and aging.
Shalender Bhasin,Olga M. Calof,Thomas W. Storer,Martin Lee,Norman A. Mazer,Ravi Jasuja,Victor M. Montori,Wenqing Gao,James T. Dalton +8 more
TL;DR: Meta-analyses indicate that testosterone supplementation increases fat-free mass and muscle strength in HIV-positive men with weight loss, glucocorticoid-treated men, and older men with low or low-normal testosterone levels, and selective androgen-receptor modulators that are preferentially anabolic hold promise as anabolic therapies.
