Klotho Inhibits Transforming Growth Factor-β1 (TGF-β1) Signaling and Suppresses Renal Fibrosis and Cancer Metastasis in Mice
Shigehiro Doi,Yonglong Zou,Osamu Togao,Johanne Pastor,George John,Lei Wang,Kazuhiro Shiizaki,Russell Gotschall,Susan C. Schiavi,Noriaki Yorioka,Masaya Takahashi,David A. Boothman,Makoto Kuro-o +12 more
TL;DR: It is shown that renal fibrosis induced by unilateral ureteral obstruction and metastasis of human cancer xenografts are suppressed by administration of secreted Klotho protein to mice, raising the possibility thatsecreted Kloths may function as an endogenous anti-EMT factor by inhibiting multiple growth factor signaling pathways simultaneously.

PPAR-gamma agonist attenuates renal interstitial fibrosis and inflammation through reduction of TGF-beta.
Toru Kawai,Takao Masaki,Shigehiro Doi,Tetsuji Arakawa,Yukio Yokoyama,Toshiki Doi,Nobuoki Kohno,Noriaki Yorioka +7 more
TL;DR: The anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory effects of the TZD troglitazone in the mouse model of unilateral ureteral obstruction were investigated and PPAR-γ agonist significantly reduced TGF-β and attenuated renal interstitial fibrosis and inflammation in the model of UUO.

Prognosis and risk factors for idiopathic membranous nephropathy with nephrotic syndrome in Japan.
Hideo Shiiki,Takao Saito,Yoshiharu Nishitani,Tetsuya Mitarai,Noriaki Yorioka,Ashio Yoshimura,Hitoshi Yokoyama,Shinichi Nishi,Yasuhiko Tomino,Kiyoshi Kurokawa,Hideto Sakai +10 more
TL;DR: IMN is a disease with a comparatively good prognosis in Japan even when it is associated with nephrotic syndrome and Steroid therapy, which has not been recommended for IMN in most review articles, seems to be useful at least for Japanese patients.

Assessment of renal fibrosis with diffusion-weighted MR imaging: study with murine model of unilateral ureteral obstruction.
TL;DR: An ADC decrease in renal fibrosis is associated with an increased number of cells, including fibroblasts, and has the potential to serve as a sensitive noninvasive biomarker of renal Fibrosis.

Angiotensin II induces thrombospondin-1 production in human mesangial cells via p38 MAPK and JNK: a mechanism for activation of latent TGF-β1
Takayuki Naito,Takao Masaki,David J. Nikolic-Paterson,Chie Tanji,Noriaki Yorioka,Nobuoki Kohno +5 more
TL;DR: ANG II induces secretion and activation of transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) by glomerular mesangial cells, but the mechanisms that operate this are unclear.
