Somatostatin suppresses endothelin-1-induced rat hepatic stellate cell contraction via somatostatin receptor subtype 1.
Hendrik Reynaert,Freya Vaeyens,Hong Qin,Karine Hellemans,Nirjhar Chatterjee,Dominique Winand,Erik Quartier,Frans Schuit,Daniel Urbain,Ujendra Kumar,Yogesh C. Patel,Albert Geerts,Albert Geerts +12 more
TL;DR: SST causes significant partial inhibition of ET-1-induced contraction of activated HSCs, mainly by stimulation of SSTR subtype 1, and SSTR agonist 1, but not Sstr agonist 2 or 3, was able to counteract the contractile effect ofET-1.

Somatostatin at nanomolar concentration reduces collagen I and III synthesis by, but not proliferation of activated rat hepatic stellate cells.
Hendrik Reynaert,Krista Rombouts,Yutao Jia,Daniel Urbain,Nirjhar Chatterjee,Naoki Uyama,Albert Geerts +6 more
TL;DR: The findings imply that in vivo antifibrotic effects of somatostatin could result partially from a direct action of som atostatin on HSC, but other, in vivo effects are probably also involved.

Expression of somatostatin receptors in splanchnic blood vessels of normal and cirrhotic rats
Hendrik Reynaert,Elke Van Rossen,Naoki Uyama,Nirjhar Chatterjee,Ujendra Kumar,Daniel Urbain,Albert Geerts +6 more
TL;DR: This study investigated SSTR expression in splanchnic blood vessels from normal and cirrhotic rats to find out if somatostatin lowers portal pressure by constriction of the splANchnic arteries.
