This paper presents an effective modeling methodology for Ultra-wideband (UWB) antennas. The methodology is based on augmenting an existing narrow-band model with a macro-model while simultaneously perturbing component values of the narrow-band model. The narrow-band model is an empirical-based circuit and the macro-model described by rational functions is determined using data fitting approaches. The perturbation of component values of the narrow-band model is achieved by adjustments in SPICE. This method is demonstrated on the example of a 2.5 cm dipole antenna and a circular disc monopole antenna for UWB systems. Simulation results show that this methodology is effective over a wide bandwidth and suitable for modeling most UWB antennas.

An equivalent circuit modeling method for ultra-wideband antennas

This article deals with an original equalization method of 3-D electromagnetic (EM) cavity resonance by using bandpass negative group delay (NGD) function Based on the equivalent circuit, the S -matrix model of the equalized EM cavity is introduced The design equations of the NGD function are established in function of the cavity physical parameters The feasibility of the equalization method is validated with a 42×28×38 cm rectangular cavity containing two communicating monopole antennas By considering the TE110-mode, a significant equalization is realized with improvement of transmission coefficient flatness from 4 dB to less than 03 dB In addition to the magnitude, the NGD equalization method enables to outstandingly reduce spikes of 3-D EM cavity group delay With the proof of concept, the GD is reduced from more than 4 to 1 ns

Electromagnetic Cavity Resonance Equalization With Bandpass Negative Group Delay

The shielding effectiveness (SE) measurements on enclosures with various apertures by both reverberation chamber (RC) and GTEM cell (GC) methodologies are presented. Furthermore, computer simulation through commercial software (CST) is used to compare with the experimental data. Our results show that the SE of the rectangular enclosure with five different apertures from RC is usually larger than those from GC. The reason for this is related to the random polarization and various angles of incidence within the RC, where various polarization and incident angles are averagely and randomly coupled into the EUT. However, as for the GC, the normal incidence with vertical polarization usually corresponds to the worse case, which leads to the worse SE of the enclosure. Surprisingly, an abnormal phenomenon is found from the enclosure with nine periodic rectangles. According to Charles F Bunting’s work, moreover, it is still reasonable because many rectangular apertures on the enclosure may lead to a fact that the coupled energy of oblique incidence may be larger than that of normal incidence. Finally, we obtain conclusions about the use of two experimental methodologies in SE measurement.

Shielding effectiveness measurements on enclosures with various apertures by both mode-tuned reverberation chamber and gtem cell methodologies

In this paper, an extremely fast technique is introduced to evaluate the shielding effectiveness of a rectangular enclosure of finite wall thickness and numerous square or circular small apertures subject to a normally incident plane wave. The technique is based on the traditional waveguide circuit model where the enclosure is replaced with an equivalent shorted transmission line. In the proposed circuit model, the perforated thick wall is represented by an equivalent impedance which is derived from the reflection coefficient. The computation results are in very good agreement with measurements. Additionally, further results are compared to a generalized modal MoM technique which are in excellent agreement as the number of apertures increase. Besides accuracy, the method is extremely efficient and easy to implement compared to the numerical techniques.
