The development of highly active single-atom catalysts (SACs) and identifying their intrinsic active sites in oxidizing industrial hazardous hydrocarbons are challenging prospects. Tuning the electronic metal-support interactions (EMSIs) is valid for modulating the catalytic performance of SACs. We propose that the modulation of the EMSIs in a Pt1 -CuO SAC significantly promotes the activity of the catalyst in acetone oxidation. The EMSIs promote charge redistribution through the unified Pt-O-Cu moieties, which modulates the d-band structure of atomic Pt sites, and strengthens the adsorption and activation of reactants. The positively charged Pt atoms are superior for activating acetone at low temperatures, and the stretched Cu-O bonds facilitate the activation of lattice oxygen atoms to participate in subsequent oxidation. We believe that this work will guide researchers to engineer efficient SACs for application in hydrocarbon oxidation reactions. 

Modulating the Electronic Metal‐Support Interactions in Single‐Atom Pt 1 −CuO Catalyst for Boosting Acetone Oxidation

The dry reforming of methane (DRM) reaction is among the most popular catalytic reactions for the production of syngas (H2/CO) with a H2:CO ratio favorable for the Fischer–Tropsch reaction; this makes the DRM reaction important from an industrial perspective, as unlimited possibilities for production of valuable products are presented by the FT process. At the same time, simultaneously tackling two major contributors to the greenhouse effect (CH4 and CO2) is an additional contribution of the DRM reaction. The main players in the DRM arena—Ni-supported catalysts—suffer from both coking and sintering, while the activation of the two reactants (CO2 and CH4) through different approaches merits further exploration, opening new pathways for innovation. In this review, different families of materials are explored and discussed, ranging from metal-supported catalysts, to layered materials, to organic frameworks. DRM catalyst design criteria—such as support basicity and surface area, bimetallic active sites and promoters, and metal–support interaction—are all discussed. To evaluate the reactivity of the surface and understand the energetics of the process, density-functional theory calculations are used as a unique tool.

A Review on the Different Aspects and Challenges of the Dry Reforming of Methane (DRM) Reaction

Efficient photocatalytic degradation of sulfamethazine by Cu-Cu O/TiO2 composites: Performance, photocatalytic mechanism and degradation pathways

Non-thermal plasma reforming of CH4 with CO2 into value-added fuels and chemicals is very promising but challenging due to the low energy efficiency of the reforming process. One of the most important factors influencing energy efficiency is plasma power supply, and nanosecond pulsed power sources are gaining increasing interest in enhancing the energy efficiency of plasma chemical processes. Here, we investigate plasma-assisted CH4 reforming with CO2 using a nanosecond pulsed dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma. Both electrical characteristics and reaction performance were investigated under different operating parameters, including applied voltage, total flow rate, CH4/CO2 molar ratio, and discharge length. Increasing applied voltage (from 20 to 28 kV) and discharge length (from 6 to 14 cm) enhanced the total gas conversion by 53.2% and 41.2%, respectively, but decreased the energy efficiency by 30.6% and 14.3%, respectively. The highest energy efficiency (12.4%) was obtained at an applied voltage of 20 kV, a total flow rate of 50 ml/min, a CH4/CO2 molar ratio of 1:1 and a discharge length of 10 cm, while the highest total gas conversion of 30.3% was achieved at a higher applied voltage of 26 kV and a lower total flow rate of 25 ml/min. An artificial neural network (ANN) model was developed to predict the plasma reforming process, and to investigate the relative contributions of key operating parameters to the reaction performance of this process. The results of the ANN model indicate that the CH4/CO2 molar ratio and total flow rate affect the gas conversion most significantly, while the CH4/CO2 molar ratio plays a dominant role in determining the product selectivity and energy efficiency.
