High-intensity meropenem combinations with polymyxin B: new strategies to overcome carbapenem resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii
Justin R. Lenhard,Jürgen B. Bulitta,Terry D. Connell,Natalie D. King-Lyons,Cornelia B. Landersdorfer,Soon-Ee Cheah,Visanu Thamlikitkul,Beom Soo Shin,G.V.N. Rao,Patricia N. Holden,Thomas J. Walsh,Alan Forrest,Roger L. Nation,Jian Li,Brian T. Tsuji +14 more
TL;DR: Intensified mer Openem dosing in combination with polymyxin B may offer a unique strategy to kill CRAB irrespective of the meropenem MIC.
Expression of hurP, a Gene Encoding a Prospective Site 2 Protease, Is Essential for Heme-Dependent Induction of bhuR in Bordetella bronchiseptica
TL;DR: Data provided strong evidence that protease activity and cleavage site recognition was conserved in HurP, RseP, and YaeL, consistent with a model in which HurP functionally modifies HurR, a sigma factor regulator that is essential for heme-dependent induction of bhuR.

Novel strategy to protect against influenza virus-induced pneumococcal disease without interfering with commensal colonization
Christopher J. Greene,Laura R. Marks,John C. Hu,Ryan M. Reddinger,Lorrie Mandell,Hazeline Roche-Hakansson,Natalie D. King-Lyons,Terry D. Connell,Anders Håkansson +8 more
TL;DR: The results firmly demonstrated that this immunization strategy against virally induced pneumococcal disease can be conferred without disturbing the desirable preexisting commensal colonization of the nasopharynx.

Structure-activity correlations of variant forms of the B pentamer of Escherichia coli type II heat-labile enterotoxin LT-IIb with Toll-like receptor 2 binding.
Vivian Cody,Jim Pace,Hesham F. Nawar,Natalie D. King-Lyons,Shuang Liang,Terry D. Connell,George Hajishengallis +6 more
TL;DR: Crystal structures of the Ser74Asp, Ser74Ala and Thr13Ile variants of LT-IIb-B(5) have been determined and reveal that the carboxylate side chain points into the pore, thereby reducing the por size compared with that of the wild-type or the Ser 74Ala variant B pentamer.
The Divergent CD8+ T Cell Adjuvant Properties of LT-IIb and LT-IIc, Two Type II Heat-Labile Enterotoxins, Are Conferred by Their Ganglioside-Binding B Subunits.
TL;DR: It was found that not all the adjuvant characteristics of the HLT adjuvants were modulated by the respective B subunits, and it is likely that additional factors other than the B subunit contribute to the effects elicited by the H LT adjuvant.
