Introduction: Many drugs with high efficacy are used to treat stomach ulcers, but they have many side effects. Therefore, much effort has been made to find new effective compounds from plant extracts. The aqueous extract of the internal layer of oak fruit (jaft) contains antioxidants and tannins; it has many desirable properties such as inhibition of the growth of pathogens. In this study, the preventing effect of Jaft extract on stomach ulcers induced by stress was investigated. Matherials and Methods: The effect of the extract on the prevention of gastric ulcer was investigated using a variety of methods including pH measurement, nitric oxide (NO), malondialdehyde (MDA), and histological methods. Rats were randomly divided into six groups. Five groups were gavage fed with different concentrations of Jaft extract, ranitidine and normal saline. The sixth group was gavage fed with normal saline as the control group. Ranitidine and normal saline were used as positive and negative controls, respectively. Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey's post hoc test using SPSS version 18.0. Results: It was revealed that the average thickness of the mucous glands and mucosal folds in the groups receiving the extract (250, 500 and 750 mg/kg) did not significantly decrease when compared with the situation of the control group (p<0.05). However, the average nitric oxide (NO) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the control group meaningfully decreased in comparison with groups receiving the extract (250, 500 and 750 mg/kg). The average pH in groups receiving the extract and ranitidine significantly increased compared to the control group (p<0.05). Conclusions: Jaft extract contains abundant polyphenolic compounds and tannins and has several biological properties such as pharmacological properties, antioxidant activity, and inhibition of lipid oxidation. Therefore, it has the potential to prevent and treat stomach ulcers.

Evaluation of the effect of the internal layer of oak fruit (jaft) extract on the prevention of gastric ulcers caused by stress in male rats.

Staphylococcus aureus can cause a wide spectrum of infections ranging from wound infections to life threatening systemic illnesses. These bacteria have multi drug resistance and can be difficult to treat. This study included a total of 20 Staphylococcus aureus isolated from wound infection, identification of Staphylococcus aureus  was based on growth on manitol salt agar, DNase test, coagulase test. Alcoholic extract of inner stratum of Oak (Jaft) and stem bark of Juglans regia L. were tested for the activity against this bacterium by determination the Minimum Inhibitbitory Concentration (MIC). The results showed that both Jaft and Juglans regia L. stem bark  extract have effect against Staphylococcus aureus ,the values of MIC of Jaft extract against isolates ranged between o.39 -12.5mg/ml with average of 3.9 mg/ml, and the values of MIC of Juglans regia L. stem bark ranged between 0.39-12.5mg/ml with average  of 6.3 mg/ml. \nThis study aimed to know the effect of alcoholic extract of inner stratum of oak (Jaft) and stem bark of Juglans regia L. on Staphylococcus aureus isolated from the wound infection by using MIC method. \n  \nhttp://dx.doi.org/10.25130/tjps.24.2019.025

Antibacterial Effect of Alcoholic Extract of Juglans regia L. stem bark and Inner Stratum of Oak Fruit (Jaft) on Staphylococcus aureus isolated from wound infection

Burn is one of the major causes of mortality in the world, and its prevalence in the developing countries is multiple times the developed countries.In traditional medicinal plants were used to treat injuries and subside pains and accelerate the healing of burn wounds.Oak (Jaft) and Hypericum Perforatum as antioxidants have antimicrobial and antiseptic effects, the extracts of which were used in this design to repair second grade burns in male rats.Materials and methods: Some 50 male rats of wistar race with a weight of 200-250 grams were purchased, and were kept in the nest for one week for adaptation, with open (free) access to water, food, and appropriate ventilation, then the rats were divided randomly in five groups. The first group, burn control which were washed daily with physiology serum. The second, third, fourth, and fifth groups were treated after burn with Oak (Jaft) extract, Hypericum Perforatum, a mixture of Oak (Jaft) and Hypericum Perforatum, and silver- sulfadiazine ointment 1% respectively to create second grade burn, the animals were anesthetized with sodium thiopental (40 mg/kg/IP) and were exposed to boiling water in the arranged containers with a hole of 2 square centimeters area for 10 seconds so that the shaved surface of skin was in contact with the boiling water.After 35 days of treatment and after weighing the rats were anesthetized with Sodium thiopental. The specimen of the skin tissue of the injured area were taken and transferred to Formalin 10% solution.After tissue processing, the specimen were moulded, sections of 5 micron were prepared and staining was done with hematoxylin - eosin. Then, the tissue changes were studied using light microscope, and the obtaineddata were analyzed using SPSS software and unilateral variance analysis test.Results: The resultsdon't show statistical difference is in the average burn surface, thickness of epiderm and the rate of malondialdehyde in Oak extract, Hypericum Perforatum and the combination of these two, in comparison to other groups (P<0.05).Conclusion: It is probable that Oak extract and Hypericum Perforatum with their antioxidant properties are able to fortify each other's effects, with more appropriate dosages and repair the injuries of skin and its appends.
