Preliminary evaluation of recombinant amino-terminal fragment of human bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein in children with severe meningococcal sepsis.
Brett P. Giroir,Peter A. Quint,Phil Barton,Erica A. Kirsch,Louann Kitchen,Brahm Goldstein,Betty J. Nelson,Nancy Wedel,Stephen F. Carroll,Patrick J. Scannon +9 more
TL;DR: This, the first clinical trial or rBPI21, shows that rB PI21 can be safely administered to children with severe meningococcaemia and that the pharmacokinetics are consistent with patterns seen in healthy adults.

A phase I safety and pharmacokinetic study of a recombinant amino terminal fragment of bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein in healthy male volunteers.
Robert J. Bauer,Mark L. White,Nancy Wedel,Betty J. Nelson,Nadav Friedmann,Albert Cohen,Willem N.m. Hustinx,Ada H. C. Kung +7 more
TL;DR: The pharmacokinetic and safety clinical trial of rBPI23, a recombinant amino terminal fragment of bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein, was conducted in healthy male volunteers and no antibody response to rB PI23 was observed in any of the subjects.

Plasma bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein concentrations in critically ill children with the sepsis syndrome.
Hector R. Wong,Lesley Doughty,Nancy Wedel,Mark L. White,Betty J. Nelson,Nancy Havrilla,Joseph A. Carcillo +6 more
TL;DR: These data provide the first clinical insights regarding the role of endogenous BPI production in critically ill children and suggest that BPI may play an important role in host defenses.

Randomized Placebo-controlled Study of E5 Monoclonal Antiendotoxin Antibody
Kenneth J. Gorelick,Patrick J. Scannon,John Hannigan,Nancy Wedel,Samuel K. Ackerman +4 more
- 01 Jan 1990
TL;DR: Although many clinical investigations have been performed with monoclonal antibody products, few large multicenter trials have been reported and both scientific and regulatory rationales for such trials apply.

Human therapeutic uses of BPI protein products
Nadav Friedmann,Patrick J. Scannon,Sander J. H. van Deventer,Marijke A. M. von der Mohlen,Nancy Wedel +4 more
- 24 Jan 1995
TL;DR: In this article, methods for treatment of humans exposed to bacterial endotoxin in circulation by administration of bactericidal/permeability-increasing (BPI) protein products are discussed, where alleviation of endotoxin mediated increases in circulating cytokines, fibrinolysis and coagulation factors and changes in lymphocyte counts are observed upon such treatment.
