Characteristics of lipid substances activating the ileal brake in the rat.
TL;DR: The diversity of lipid substances activating the ileal brake suggest a nonspecific effect by lipid soluble substances that can penetrate cell membranes that can penetrating cell membranes.

The effect of guar gum on the distribution of a radiolabelled meal in the gastrointestinal tract of the rat.
TL;DR: The observed delay in the passage of a guar-gum-containing meal through the stomach and small intestine is probably due to the viscous nature of the meal resisting the propulsive and mixing effects of the gastrointestinal contractions, thereby reducing access of the glucose to the absorptive epithelium.

Granisetron and Ondansetron: Effects on the Ileal Brake Mechanism in the Rat
TL;DR: Granisetron significantly reversed the delay in SCTT induced by ileal infusion of lipid, and ondansetron reversed the lipid‐induced delay, which apparently conflicting results may be rationalized by postulating the presence of 5‐HT3 receptors on afferent nerves which initiate reflexes that both accelerate and delay transit.

Is cholecystokinin a satiety hormone? Correlations of plasma cholecystokinin with hunger, satiety and gastric emptying in normal volunteers
TL;DR: Data do not support a direct role for circulating levels of CCK in the control of hunger and satiety following a meal, but the strong correlation with gastric emptying is compatible with release ofCCK in response to nutrient delivery into the small intestine.

The effect of ingestion of guar gum on ileostomy effluent.
S. E. Higham,N. W. Read +1 more
TL;DR: Results show that guar gum will reduce fat absorption, the mechanisms involved are more sophisticated than hitherto envisaged and show that it is not always possible to predict what will happen to small intestinal function when guar Gum is added to the diet from experiments carried out when Guar gum is administered alone or with glucose.
