Cumplidos los requerimientos de frio de la endolatencia aparece el efecto interaccion frio-calor, iniciando la ecolatencia, en la que las yemas adquieren gradualmente capacidad de brotar. Las necesidades de frio de ambas etapas son complementarias y su adicion constituye la totalidad del requerimiento de la latencia. Para estudiar el requerimiento de frio de la endolatencia se mide el efecto que producen cantidades crecientes de unidades de frio Utah modificado (UFUM) con reducidas cantidades de calor expresado en grados de crecimiento horario (GDHoC) sobre la brotacion en yemas vegetativas de las variedades Brooks, New Star, Garnet y Stella. Los ensayos se realizan en materiales que reciben UFUM en condiciones controladas y de campo y las GDHoC en condiciones de campo e invernaculo. Los modelos estimaron convenientemente el comportamiento de la brotacion. Los requerimientos de la endolatencia son: 355, 530, 469 y 736 UFUM, mientras que los de la ecolatencia son: 460, 480, 370 y 560 para las variedades Brooks, New Star, Garnet y Stella respectivamente. Debido a la interaccion frio-calor de la ecolatencia, los requerimientos varian con la variedad y la disponibilidad de frio invernal y de calor primaveral. Durante la ecolatencia cuando se incrementa solo el calor, generalmente se logra una mayor respuesta de brotacion que en aquellas en las que incrementa solo el frio (Brooks, New Star y Stella). Otras variedades como Garnet su efecto es mas balanceado. Entre las variedades en estudio los requerimientos de endolatencia poseen mayor variabilidad que los de la ecolatencia.
