TL;DR: Multivariate analyses show that the relative frequencies of CF mutations are heterogeneous among Italian regions, and that this heterogeneity is weakly correlated with the geographical pattern of non‐DNA ‘classical’ genetic markers.

Liver expression in cystic fibrosis could be modulated by genetic factors different from the cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator genotype.
Giuseppe Castaldo,Antonella Fuccio,Donatello Salvatore,Valeria Raia,Teresa Santostasi,Salvatore Leonardi,Natalia Lizzi,Mario La Rosa,N. Rigillo,Francesco Salvatore +9 more
TL;DR: Environmental factors, nutritional state, and therapy compliance are not involved in the liver expression of cystic fibrosis in the five unrelated sibships, which suggests that modifier genes, inherited independently of the cystic Fibrosis transmembrane regulator gene, could modulate the liver Expression in cysts fibrosis patients.

Ear involvement in childhood Langerhans' cell histiocytosis
Giammarco Surico,Paola Muggeo,Vito M. R. Muggeo,Valeria Conti,Chiara Novielli,Annarosa Romano,G. Loiacono,Adriana Ceci,N. Rigillo +8 more
TL;DR: The Italian pediatric population of 251 children diagnosed between 1982 and 1995 is reviewed, focusing on EI, to highlight the prevalence, the clinical presentation, the outcome during follow‐up, and the prognostic impact of otologic LCH.

Helicobacter pylori status and symptom assessment two years after eradication in pediatric patients from a high prevalence area.
Anna Maria Magistà,Enzo Ierardi,Stefania Castellaneta,Vito Leonardo Miniello,Elena Lionetti,Antonio Francavilla,Philippe Ros,N. Rigillo,Alfredo Di Leo,Ruggiero Francavilla +9 more
TL;DR: Although reinfected children were more frequently symptomatic than non-reinfected patients, no specific symptom was associated with reinfection and should prompt a re-evaluation of H. pylori status even after a successful eradication.

Helicobacter pylori and nonulcer dyspepsia in childhood: clinical pattern, diagnostic techniques, and bacterial strains.
V. Rutigliano,Enzo Ierardi,Ruggiero Francavilla,Stefania Castellaneta,Marcella Margiotta,Annacinzia Amoruso,Elisa Marrazza,Andrea Traversa,Carmine Panella,N. Rigillo,Antonio Francavilla +10 more
TL;DR: The urea breath test was the most reliable noninvasive diagnostic tool and is suitable for routine use, although endoscopy with histologic assessment remains the definitive investigation and is particularly important in patients with positive serology for CagA and VacA.
