Destruction of the outer membrane permeability barrier of Escherichia coli by heat treatment.
TL;DR: Heat treatment of a wild-type Escherichia coli strain in 50 mM Tris-hydrochloride buffer with or without 10 mM magnesium sulfate or HEPES or N-2-hydroxyethylpiperazine-N'-2-ethanesulfonic acid buffer caused an increase in cell surface hydrophobicity.

Heat-induced blebbing and vesiculation of the outer membrane of Escherichia coli.
TL;DR: Results obtained suggest that surface blebs formed by heat treatment almost completely consist of the outer membrane and that the blebs may be gradually released from the cell surface into the heating menstruum to partially form vesicles.
Viability of heat-stressed cells of micro-organisms as influenced by pre-incubation and post-incubation temperatures
TL;DR: The viability of heat-stressed cells of Escherichia coli was influenced by the temperature of incubation prior and subsequent to heat treatment, and these phenomena were observed with other Gram negative and positive bacteria, and yeasts.
