First‐principle investigation of XSrH3 (X = K and Rb) perovskite‐type hydrides for hydrogen storage

Theoretical investigation on electronic structural, magnetic, mechanical and thermodynamic properties of SrPuO3 perovskite oxide has been accomplished within density functional theory (DFT). For exchange correlations generalized gradient approximation (GGA), on-site coulomb repulsion (GGA + U) and modified Becke-Johnson (mBJ) have been used. The calculated structural parameters including lattice constant were found in good agreement with the available experimental and theoretical results. The spin polarized electronic band structure and density of states present half-metallic nature for the compound with majority spin (spin up states) as metallic and minority spin (spin down states) as semi-conducting. The large value of magnetic moment equal to 4 μ B was found for the compound. Elastic and mechanical properties have been predicted under ambient conditions. Moreover, thermodynamic parameters like Debye temperature (θ D), specific heat (CV), entropy (S) etc have been calculated using quasi-harmonic Debye model under different temperature and pressure values.

Mechanical properties of Heusler alloys.

The structural, electronic, magnetic and elastic properties of cubic EuMO3 (M  =  Ga, In) perovskites has been successfully predicted within well accepted density functional theory using full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW). The structural study reveals ferromagnetic stability for both the compounds. The Hubbard correlation (GGA+U) calculated spin polarized electronic band and density of states presents half-metallic nature for both the compounds. The magnetic moments calculated with different approximations were found to be approximately 6 µB for EuGaO3 and approximately 7 µB for EuInO3. The three independent elastic constants (C11, C12, C44) have been used for the prediction of mechanical properties like Young modulus (Y), Shear modulus (G), Poisson ratio (ν), Anisotropic factor (A) under pressure. The B/G ratio presents the ductile nature for both compounds. The thermodynamic parameters like specific heat capacity, thermal expansion, Grüneisen parameter and Debye temperature etc have also been analyzed in the temperature range 0–900 K and pressure range from 0 to 30 GPa.

First successful ab initio calculations on electronic structure, magnetic, elasto-mechanical and thermodynamic properties of cubic double perovskite oxide Ba2ZnOsO6 has been effectively calculated within density functional theory via full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method. The structural investigation exposes the ferromagnetic phase stability of the compound. The spin polarized electronic and magnetic properties were calculated within generalized gradient approximation (GGA), Hubbard approximation (GGA + U), mBJ (modified Becke-Johnson approximation). The electronic profile establishes half-metallic nature for the compound. The calculated total spin magnetic moment was found equal to 2 µB. The elastic constants have been calculated and used to predict mechanical stuffs like Shear modulus (G) Poisson ratio (ν) and anisotropic factor (A). The calculated B/G and Cauchy pressure (C12-C44) both characterize the material as brittle. The thermodynamic parameters like heat capacity and Debye temperature have also been predicted in the temperature range of 0 K–1000 K.

A combined DFT, DFT + U and mBJ investigation on electronic structure, magnetic, mechanical and thermodynamics of double perovskite Ba2ZnOsO6

Semi-Heusler materials are intensively investigated due to their potential use in diverse applications, such as in spintronics and green energy applications. In this work, we employ the density functional theory to calculate the structural, electronic, elastic, thermal and optical properties of the VRuSb, NbRuSb and TaRuSb semi-Heusler compounds. The calculated results for the lattice constants, bulk moduli and their corresponding pressure derivative values are in fairly good agreement with previous works. In addition, besides the local density approximation, the modified Becke–Johnson exchange potential is also used to improve the value of the band gaps. The bonding nature reveals a mixture of covalent and ionic bonding character of the VRuSb, NbRuSb and TaRuSb compounds. Furthermore, the elastic constants (Cij) and the related elastic moduli confirm their stability in the cubic phase and demonstrate their ductile nature. We also analyze the influence of the pressure and temperature on the primitive cell volume, heat capacity, volume expansion coefficient, and Debye temperature of the semi-Heusler compounds. Additionally, we investigate the optical properties, such as the complex dielectric function, refractive index, reflectivity, and the energy loss function.
