The spectrum of Mo xiv was observed with a low-inductance spark and a laser-produced plasma in the region from 70 to 630 A on the10.7-m grazing-incidence spectrograph at NBS. From the identification of 35 lines, a system of 22 energy levels was determined. The level system (Cu i isoelectronic sequence, 3d10nl) includes the series ns (n = 4–6), np (n = 4–6), nd (n = 4,5), nf(n = 4–6), and ng (n = 5–7). The observed energy levels are compared with Hartree-Fock calculations. The ionization energy is determined from the ng series (n = 5–7) to be 2 440 600 ± 300 cm−3 (302.60 ± 0.04 eV).

Spectrum and energy levels of thirteen-times ionized molybdenum (Mo XIV)

The spectrum of Kr VIII has been observed between 180 and 2000 A by using foil excitation of 2.5--3.5-MeV krypton ions. Twenty new transitions have been classified and eleven new excited-state energies have been determined within the n=4 --7 shells. The ionization potential is derived to be 1 015 800 +- 200 cm/sup -1/. The excited-state energies and fine structures are compared with recent relativistic Hartree-Fock calculations. The 4p-state lifetime has been measured by performing a simultaneous analysis of decay data for the 4p level and for its dominant cascade-repopulating levels. The 4p lifetime is found to be 30% shorter than previously measured values and is in excellent agreement with the result of a recent multiconfiguration Hartree-Fock calculation. The source of the discrepancy between this result and earlier measurements is discussed.

Energies and lifetimes of excited states in copperlike Kr viii

Excitation energies, oscillator strengths, and transition probabilities for the $4{s}^{2}^{1}S_{0}\ensuremath{-}4s4p^{1}P_{1}$, $4{s}^{2}^{1}S_{0}\ensuremath{-}4s5p^{1}P_{1}$, and $4{s}^{2}^{1}S_{0}\ensuremath{-}4s6p^{1}P_{1}$ resonance transitions of elements of the zinc isoelectronic sequence are calculated using the relativistic random-phase approximation. The elements considered range from Gaii to Ulxiii and include many of interest in current fusion research. A graphical analysis of the systematic trends of the oscillator strength as a function of the inverse nuclear charge provides a means of estimating the oscillator strengths for those elements whose values are not explicitly calculated.

Spectra and energy levels of ions in the zinc isoelectronic sequence from Rb VIII to Mo XIII.

The spectrum of iodine was photographed on a 3-m normal incidence spectrograph at the Antigonish laboratory using a triggered spark source in the 300-1200 A region. Eleven out of twelve levels of the 5p5d configuration and all four levels of the 5p6s configuration of I VI have been established. The missing level 5p2 1S0 has been located and two levels 5s5d 1D2 and 5s6s 1S0 reported earlier have been revised. The beam foil spectra obtained at the University of Alberta in Edmonton complemented the spark data. The least-square-fitting (LSF) and Hartree-Fock calculations were carried out to interpret the level scheme. Sixty-six new lines have been classified in this spectrum.

The $4s\ensuremath{-}4p$ resonance transitions in the copperlike and zinclike ions from Rb to Mo have been observed by means of a low-inductance open spark and a 10.7-m grazing-incidence spectrograph. Lines belonging to highly charged ions could be distinguished by their abnormally large widths. The observations confirm the identification of the resonance lines of Mo xiii and Mo xiv in the Princeton University $\mathrm{ST}$ tokamak by Hinnov, Johnson, Meservey, and Dimock.
