Large-scale orientational order in bacterial colonies during inward growth
TL;DR: In this article, the velocity profile of growing colonies creates strong radial orientation during inward growth when crowded populations invade a closed area, leading to the formation of large-scale ordered structures including topological defects and microdomains.

Formation of self-assembled asters in growing bacterial colonies
TL;DR: The present results indicate a new mechanism underlying defect formation in bacterial colonies during inward growth when crowded populations invade a closed area and provide mechanistic insights into the dynamics of bacterial growth on complex surfaces.

Bacterial biofilms use chiral branches to escape crowded environments by tracking oxygen gradient
Mustafa Basaran,Tevfik Can Yuce,Yusuf Ilker Yaman,Roman Vetter,Askin Kocabas +4 more
- 20 Aug 2022
TL;DR: It is found that surface friction and growing cell wall initiates the asymmetric growth dynamics in bacterial biofilms and triggers the large-scale chirality, which helps bacterial biofilmms to spread more effectively in oxygen-limited environments.

Localized X-ray photoelectron impedance spectroscopy (LoXPIS) for capturing charge dynamics of an ionic liquid electrolyte within an energy storage device.
Mustafa Basaran,E. Oz,Said Ergoktas,Coskun Kocabas,Burak Ulgut,Askin Kocabas,Sefik Suzer +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors used X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to detect the ion migration and accumulation on surfaces of coplanar capacitors.
