Association of endothelial and oxidative stress with metabolic syndrome and subclinical atherosclerosis: multi-ethnic study of atherosclerosis
Dhananjay Vaidya,Moyses Szklo,Mary Cushman,Paul Holvoet,Joseph F. Polak,Hossein Bahrami,Nancy S. Jenny,Pamela Ouyang +7 more
TL;DR: The association of MetS with subclinical atherosclerosis was independent of its association with biomarkers of endothelialDamage and oxidative stress, suggesting that metabolic abnormalities and oxidative endothelial damage may lead to atherosclerotic disease through distinct mechanisms.

Predictive Value of Coronary Artery Calcium Score Categories for Coronary Events Versus Strokes: Impact of Sex and Race: MESA and DHS.
Anurag Mehta,Ambarish Pandey,Colby Ayers,Amit Khera,Laurence S. Sperling,Moyses Szklo,Rebecca F. Gottesman,Mathew Budoff,Michael J. Blaha,Roger S. Blumenthal,Khurram Nasir,Khurram Nasir,Parag H. Joshi +12 more
TL;DR: In 2 population-based cohorts of asymptomatic individuals, 10-year CHD-to-stroke incidence ratio was higher with increasing CAC score categories across sex and race groups, and CAC was consistently a better predictor of CHD than stroke.
Ensaio clínico randomizado: efetividade da abordagem cognitivo-comportamental e uso de adesivos transdérmicos de reposição de nicotina, na cessação de fumar, em adultos residentes no Município do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
Ubirani Otero,Cristina de Abreu Perez,Moyses Szklo,Gilcenira Ataliba Esteves,Mariana Pinho,André Salem Szklo,Silvana Rubano Barretto Turci +6 more
TL;DR: Padroes tipo "dose-resposta" encontrados nas razoes de proporcao de abstinencia sugerem that a abordagem cognitivo-comportamental pode ser uma opcao razoavel no tratamento do fumante.
Chronic Kidney Disease, Plasma Lipoproteins, and Coronary Artery Calcium Incidence: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis
Julio A. Lamprea-Montealegre,Robyn L. McClelland,Brad C. Astor,Kunihiro Matsushita,Michael G. Shlipak,Ian H. de Boer,Moyses Szklo +6 more
TL;DR: Chronic kidney disease is strongly associated with CAC incidence, and part of this association is mediated through a characteristic lipid phenotype comprising elevations in triglyceride-rich lipoproteins.

2017 ACC/AHA blood pressure classification and incident peripheral artery disease: The Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) Study:
Yifei Lu,Shoshana H. Ballew,Hirofumi Tanaka,Moyses Szklo,Gerardo Heiss,Josef Coresh,Kunihiro Matsushita +6 more
TL;DR: Systolic blood pressure, including the category of 130–139 mmHg, showed stronger associations with incident PAD than did diastolic blood pressuring, with implications on how to interpret new blood pressure categories in terms of leg vascular health.
