Induction of Differentiation in Normal Human Keratinocytes by Adenovirus-Mediated Introduction of the η and δ Isoforms of Protein Kinase C
Motoi Ohba,Keiko Ishino,Mariko Kashiwagi,Shoko Kawabe,Kazuhiro Chida,Nam Ho Huh,Toshio Kuroki +6 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate that the η and δ isoforms of PKC are involved crucially in squamous cell differentiation.

Activation of Protein Kinase Cζ Induces Serine Phosphorylation of VAMP2 in the GLUT4 Compartment and Increases Glucose Transport in Skeletal Muscle
Liora Braiman,Addy Alt,Toshio Kuroki,Motoi Ohba,Asia Bak,Tamar Tennenbaum,Sanford R. Sampson +6 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that PKCζ regulates insulin-stimulated GLUT4 translocation and glucose transport through the unique colocalization of this isoform with theGLUT4 compartments.

PKCδ Activation: A Divergence Point in the Signaling of Insulin and IGF-1—Induced Proliferation of Skin Keratinocytes
Shlomzion Shen,Addy Alt,Efrat Wertheimer,Marina Gartsbein,Toshio Kuroki,Motoi Ohba,Liora Braiman,Sanford R. Sampson,Tamar Tennenbaum +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of insulin and IGF-1 on the proliferation of skin keratinocytes were analyzed in an attempt to determine whether these hormones trigger the same signaling pathways.

PKCη associates with cyclin E/cdk2/p21 complex, phosphorylates p21 and inhibits cdk2 kinase in keratinocytes
Mariko Kashiwagi,Motoi Ohba,Hiroyuki Watanabe,Keiko Ishino,Kohji Kasahara,Yutaka Sanai,Yoichi Taya,Toshio Kuroki +7 more
TL;DR: Another function of PKC is provided, namely, regulating cell cycle by interaction with the cyclin E/cdk2/p21 complex, which is predominantly expressed in squamous cell epithelia and induces terminal differentiation of keratinocytes.

The η isoform of protein kinase C inhibits UV-induced activation of caspase-3 in normal human keratinocytes
TL;DR: PKC fulfills a central role in the decision of cell fate in keratinocytes and negatively regulates UV-induced apoptosis through its localization, resistance to cleavage, and the p38 MAPK pathway.
