What makes organizations so similar? We contend that the engine of rationalization and bureaucratization has moved from the competitive marketplace to the state and the professions. Once a set of organizations emerges as a field, a paradox arises: rational actors make their organizations increasingly similar as they try to change them. We describe three isomorphic processes-coercive, mimetic, and normative—leading to this outcome. We then specify hypotheses about the impact of resource centralization and dependency, goal ambiguity and technical uncertainty, and professionalization and structuration on isomorphic change. Finally, we suggest implications for theories of organizations and social change.

The iron cage revisited: Institutional isomorphism and collective rationality in organizational fields (Chinese Translation)

Acknowledging the rapidly increasing senior population along with restaurant technology adoption intended to replace the labor shortage, this study investigates how to improve senior technology acceptance by focusing on the learning process. Using 298 responses obtained from senior diners aged 60 or older, structural equation modeling was employed to test the hypothesized relationships. Multi-group analyses revealed the moderating effect of normative social influence (NSI) and informational social influence (ISI). Findings support the relationships hypothesized within a senior technology exploration, learning, and acceptance model. In addition, NSI involved the link of "negative attitudes-exploration," whereas ISI affected the relationships of "exploration-perceived difficulties" and "perceived difficulties-acceptance intentions." This study presents an integrative framework, emphasizing the pivotal role of the learning process, particularly when combining two distinct social influences for senior technology acceptance. Our approach exhibits potential in directing restaurants towards embracing digital technology services that can be widely accepted by senior diners. 

Normative and informational social influence affecting digital technology acceptance of senior restaurant diners: A technology learning perspective

Abstract Background With population aging and the scarcity of resources for elderly individuals, wearable devices pose opportunities and challenges for elderly care institutions. However, few studies have examined the effects of technical characteristics, personal characteristics, and health promotion on the willingness of elderly individuals to continue using wearable devices. Objective This study explored the effects of technical characteristics and personal characteristics on the willingness of elderly individuals to continue using wearable devices through health promotion, drawing on the technology acceptance model and the value attitude behaviour model. Methods We obtained 265 valid samples through questionnaire surveys and used structural equation modelling (SEM) and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (FsQCA) to clarify the complex causal patterns of elderly people’s willingness to continue using wearable devices. Results The SEM results showed that perceived usefulness, perceived reliability, self-perceived ageing, and health promotion affected willingness to continue using wearable devices. However, perceived ease of use had no effect. FsQCA showed that elderly individuals are highly willing to continue using wearable devices, yielding five solutions. Perceived ageing was essential in four of these solutions. The impact of perceived ease of use on continued use intention was dynamic and complex. Conclusions This study used two methods to provide insight into the willingness of elderly individuals to continue using wearable devices. In addition, this study discussed associated implications, limitations, and future research directions. 

The willingness to continue using wearable devices among the elderly: SEM and FsQCA analysis

The impact of wearable technology (wearables) on user wellbeing requires closer examination given the growth in adoption across multiple domains including workplaces, leisure, and healthcare. This paper consolidates research on consumer wellbeing and wearables through an interdisciplinary systematic review of 23 empirical journal articles from psychology, information technology and business domains. Our analysis highlights the principal conceptualizations of wellbeing and offers insights into theories, methods, and key variables in these studies. The findings reveal an overemphasis on adoption and usage of wearables in the literature; a narrow definition of wellbeing; and a limited range of theoretical and methodological perspectives. We propose that future research should be holistic, drawing on mainstream wellbeing theories and examining micro, meso, and macro level conceptualizations of wellbeing. Employing diverse methodologies such as longitudinal, time sampling, cross‐sectional, qualitative, and quantitative approaches, and randomized control trials. We develop a framework outlining avenues for future research to extend current understanding in this research domain.

Prevalent elements of consumer wellbeing in wearable technology use: An interdisciplinary systematic review and future research agenda

The rise in environmental awareness and personal well-being has led to a shift in menstrual product preferences. This research, focusing on women from India, utilizes a mixed-methods approach underpinned by the Push-Pull-Mooring (PPM) framework to investigate the transition from sanitary napkins to menstrual cups. Data from 894 menstrual product users from India were analyzed utilizing PLS-SEM. The study found that health concerns and perceived costs were significant push factors, while minimalism and environmental considerations acted as pull factors. However, social stigma and perceived complexity served as mooring factors. This study extends its practicality to product manufacturers, marketers, and health educators, providing actionable strategies to promote menstrual cups with the aim of surmounting prevailing hindrances. The outcomes underscore the importance of this transition in supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) — thereby underlining its contribution to the environmental sustainability narrative and cleaner production ethos.
