A Highly Selective and Sensitive Coumarin-Based Chemosensor for Recognition of Al3+ and the Continuous Identification of Fe3+ in Water-Bearing System and Biomaging & Biosensing in Zebrafish

A pyrene-based fluorescent chemosensor APSB [N-(pyrene-1-ylmethylene) anthracen-2-amine] was designed and developed by a simple condensation reaction between pyrene carboxaldehyde and 2-aminoanthracene. The APSB fluorescent sensor selectively binds Fe3+ in the presence of other metal ions. Apart from this, APSB shows high selectivity and sensitivity toward Fe3+ ion detection. The detection limit for APSB was 1.95 nM, and the binding constant (Kb) was obtained as 8.20 × 105 M–1 in DMSO/water (95/5, v/v) medium. The fluorescence quantum yields for APSB and APSB–Fe3+ were calculated as 0.035 and 0.573, respectively. The function of this fluorescent sensor APSB can be explained through the photo-induced electron transfer mechanism which was further proved by density functional theory studies. Finally, a live-cell image study of APSB in HeLa cells was also carried out to investigate the cell permeability of APSB and its efficiency for selective detection of Fe3+ in living cells.

Developing and/or modifying fundamental chemical reactions using chemical industry-favorite heterogeneous recoverable catalytic systems in the water solvent is very important. In this paper, we developed convenient, green, and efficient approaches for the chemoselective reduction of nitroarenes, N-acetylation of arylamines, and one-pot reductive acetylation of nitroarenes in the presence of the recoverable heterogeneous carbon-supported palladium (Pd/C) catalytic system in water. The utilize of the simple, effective, and recoverable catalyst and also using of water as an entirely green solvent along with relatively short reaction times and good-to-excellent yields of the desired products are some of the noticeable features of the presented synthetic protocols.

In this research, Fe3O4@SiO2@KCC-1@MPTMS@CuII as a new cockscomb flower-like mesoporous nanocomposite was prepared and characterized by various techniques including Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), SEM-based energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermal analysis (TGA/DTA), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), UV-Vis spectroscopy, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) and Barrett–Joyner–Halenda (BJH) analyses. The as-prepared Fe3O4@SiO2@KCC-1@MPTMS@CuII mesoporous nanocomposite exhibited satisfactory catalytic activity in the reduction and reductive acetylation of nitroarenes in a water medium and solvent-free one-pot synthesis of some coumarin compounds including 3,3'-(arylmethylene)bis(4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-ones) (namely, bis-coumarins) (3a–n) and 2-amino-4-aryl-7,7-dimethyl-5-oxo-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-4H-chromene-3-carbonitriles (6a–n) along with acceptable turnover numbers (TONs) and turnover frequencies (TOFs). Furthermore, the mentioned CuII-containing mesoporous nanocatalyst was conveniently recovered by a magnet from reaction environments and reused for at least seven cycles without any significant loss in activity, which confirms its good stability.
