[Epidemiology of Hodgkin's disease].

20 patients were evaluated and found to have a radiologic-endoscopic diagnosis of primary gastrointestinal lymphoma, in the Digestive Tract Department of the "Padre Machado" Oncological Hospital in a 19 years period (1970-1989). In 17 patients diagnosis of non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma was made and the 3 other patients were diagnosed with the Hodgkin's Lymphoma. It was located more frequently in the stomach: 14 (70%). Through double contrast radiology, endoscopy and deep biopsy, the diagnosis was made in 12 (67%) patients. The most frequent hystological type was diffuse histiocytic lymphoma. Surgery was the most used treatment. The value of double contrast radiology, and deep biopsy stand out as adequate methods to obtained a positive diagnostic, avoiding unnecessary surgical procedures.

Primary gastrointestinal lymphoma

Background: Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) is a B-cell malignancy categorized in three forms endemic, sporadic, and immunodeficiency-associated variants. Epstein barr virus (EBV) is associated with BL in almost all African populations. The frequency of EBV associated with BL is unknown in Sudan. The study aimed to estimate the frequency of EBV in Sudanese patients with BL. Methods: The study was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted between June 2014 and July 2019 in 34 paraffin-embedded tissue sections obtained from diagnosed BL patients attending Soba university hospital in Khartoum city (Sudan). Monoclonal IgG1 antibody was used to detect EPV by immunohistochemistry technique. Results: The study showed that 44.1% (15/34) of BL patients were positive for EBV, whereas 55.9% (19/34) showed negative EBV. Males, 66.7% (10/15) were more affected by the EBV infection than females, 33.3% (5/15). P value=0.014. Conclusions: Despite BL is considered a rare type of lymphoma in Sudan; the obtained results showed a lower frequency of EBV compared with other studies worldwide.

Several studies have suggested a probable etiologic association between Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and lymphoma; multiple EBV proteins can be expressed in infected lymphocytes, among which Latent membrane protein-1(LMP-1) is thought to be most important for malignant transformation, the aim of this study was to investigate the association of LMP-1 EBV in this tumors. This study was carried at the Radio Isotope Center Khartoum (RICK)- Khartoum state –Sudan from January 2015 to July 2015, it was retrospective and prospective, the study include ninety (90) Formalin –fixed paraffin embedded biopsies from which seventy (70) of malignant lymphoma (study group) and twenty (20) lymph node hyperplasia (control group ).
