A magneto-optical data recording system comprises magnetic field pulse applying means for applying to a magneto-optic recording medium a magnetic field pulse of a polarity corresponding to code data to be recorded, and means for heating the recording medium in a pulsating manner at a predetermined frequency synchronous with the code data to be recorded. During recording, the magnetic field pulse applying means applies a magnetic field pulse of a polarity corresponding to code data along a track of the recording medium and the heating means continuously heats the recording medium in a pulsating manner at a predetermined frequency synchronous with the code data to thereby directly overwrite the code data. The magnetic field pulse applying means includes a magnetic coil driven by code data from a source of code data (data generator). The heating means includes an optical head which comprises a source of laser beam driven by a laser driver and an optical system which focuses the laser beam from the source of laser beam as a small light spot onto the recording medium.

A magnetooptical recording method for recording data using a bit having upward-magnetization and a bit having downward-magnetization on a recording layer of a magnetooptical-recording medium comprises the steps of using, as the medium, a multilayered magnetic recording medium consisting of a first layer having a perpendicular magnetic anisotropy acting as a recording layer, and a second layer having a perpendicular magnetic anisotropy acting as a reference layer; moving the medium; applying an initial field so that, before recording, the direction of magnetization of the recording layer is left unchanged and that of the reference layer is aligned either upward or downward; radiating two adjacent laser beams, i.e., a leading beam and a trailing beam onto the medium; the leading beam being an erasing beam of low level which is not modulated in principle; the trailing beam is a writing beam which is pulse modulated between high level and basis level in accordance with binary data to be recorded; and the basis level being able to have an intensity equal to or lower than the low level and to be zero level; when the trailing laser beam is radiated, applying a bias field to the irradiated portion; and when the intensity of the pulse-modulated laser beam is at high level, forming one of the bit having upward-magnetization, and when the leading low-level laser beam is radiated, forming the other bit.

PURPOSE: To rewrite information without erasing operation by synchronizing a magnetic field applied from outside with a clock signal, switching basing on a recording binary signal and forming a magnetizing inversion bit corresponding to the binary signal. CONSTITUTION: When recording new information in a photomagnetic disk in which a magnetizing inversion bit is already formed, a recording laser light pulse is irradiated on a recording medium synchronizing with, a clock signal, and at the same time, synchronizing applied magnetic field with the clock signal and switched basing on a recording binary signal and a magnetizing inversion bit corresponding to the recording binary signal is formed. At such a time, an outside magnetic field HW is a magnetic field that can from a magnetizing inversion bit, and HE is a magnetic field that initializes the state of magnetization. Accordingly, the magnetic field HE is applied at the time of 'O signal and the bit is not formed, and the magnetic field EW is applied by '1' signal and an inversion bit is formed. PURPOSE:To rewrite recorded information by changing the intensity of a laser light irradiated to a recording medium in the state where a certain magnetic field is impressed from external to the recording medium consisting of a magnetic thin film having a vertical magnetic anisotropy. CONSTITUTION:Binary signal information (a) is recorded on a photomagnetic disc 1 along a disc track, and the magnetization state of a magnetic thin film 3 is shown by (b). In case that binary signal information (a) is rewritten with binary signal information (c), a laser light source modulation circuit 17 is so adjusted that the power of the laser light absorbed by the magnetic thin film 3 becomes a level indicated by (d). At this time, a certain magnetic field Ha is impressed to the magnetic thin film 3 by a magnetic field impressing coil 11. When information (c) is recorded over information (a) on the magnetic thin film 3 by the power of the laser light indicated by (d), the magnetization state of the magnetic thin film 3 is shown by (e) and is converted to a form corresponding to binary signal information recorded newly by irradiation of the laser light, and thus, recorded information is rewritten.

System and device for photomagnetic recording, reproducing, and erasing

PURPOSE:To simplify and scale down a device by irradiating a laser beam, switching an impressed magnetic field at a high speed corresponding to recorded information so as to form a magnetic domain, reproducing information from the rotation of the deflected surface of a laser reflected light beam corresponding to the magnetization direction of the magnetic domain and returning it to the degaussed state by impressing a magnetic field and irradiating the laser beam. CONSTITUTION:When information is recorded on an optical magnetic disk 1, a laser power Pw at a constant level is irradiated on a disk track, and simultaneously a magnetic field (amplitude+ or - Hw and bias HB) modulated by recorded information is offered. It is adjustable by a current source 20, and at this time the magnetic domain corresponding to the recorded information having Kerr rotational angle of + or -thetak is formed on the disk track. When erasure is continuously carried out, a laser power PE at a constant level is irradiated on the track of the disk, where information has been recorded, and sumultanously a magnetic field HE at a constant level is supplied. At this time the disk track is returned to its degaussed state.
