A magnetic head comprising a magnetic film in at least a part of a magnetic circuit, at least a part of the magnetic film being formed in contact with, or as exposed to, an oxide at least in a heating step at 150°C or higher in a process for preparing the magnetic head is disclosed An amorphous alloy film for the magnetic film has the following composition formula to give distinguished head characteristics without any oxidation: where T is at least one of Nb, Ta, W, Mo, V and Cr; N is at least one of Au, Pt and Ag; d ≧ 1, b > 0, b1 +b2+2c ≧ 10, a+d ≧ 80, -1 ≦ (3c-b1-3b2-5b3-3b4-4d) / (c+b1+b2+ b3+b4+d) ≦ 1, and a+b+c+d = 100, where b1 is a Nb concentration, b2 is a Ta concentration, b3 is a W concentration, and b4 is sum total of Mo, Cr and V concentrations

A magnetic transducer for reproducing/recording high frequency signals with a magnetic tape medium includes a pair of opposed transducer head halves separated by an insulation gap and bonded together to form a Y-shaped pole structure, each half including a laminated at least partially ferromagnetic core portion bounded on opposite surfaces with outer and inner conductive layers, each of which forms a winding coil portion. Each core section has a leg portion and an angularly disposed arm portion, the distal end of which is capped with a block-shaped ferromagnetic pole tip in magnetic path relation therewith, the two pole tips lying in a common plane transverse to the plane of the gap. The conductive layers, when conductively interconnected, such as by jumpers, form a one or two turn coil for the transducer. The inner conductor is of an inverted generally U-shaped configuration with the bight portion of the two inner conductors passing through, and substantially filling, the openings of the Y-shape on opposite sides of the insulation gap layer beneath the pole pieces. The method of fabricating the magnetic transducer generally comprises the steps of forming at least two generally identical transducer head halves, each having generally one half of a Y-shape, commencing with providing a substrate having a surface shaped to define the core configuration and having a band shaped to define the pole configurations; applying a conductive layer to the surface for providing an outer coil conductor; alternately applying laminated of insulating and magnetic material to form a laminated core section; applying a conductive layer over an insulation layer about the face and side edges of the laminated core section for providing an inner generally U-shaped coil conductor; forming, in the band, a pole piece of magnetic material at the distal end of the arm of the core section; bonding two such transducer head halves in facing relation to form a Y-shaped transducer with the bonding material being insulating and forming the gap between the two pole pieces.

A ferromagnetic thin film containing Fe as a main component and at least one additive element selected from the group consisting of Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir and Pt, in which the total content of the at least one additive element is not less than 0.1 at % and additive contents, a, b, c, d, e, f, g and h (at %) respectively of said Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir and Pt satisfy ##EQU1## The ferromagnetic thin film thus disclosed has a high saturation flux density of 18 KG or more, a magnetostriction constant close to zero, and excellent corrosion resistance. There is also disclosed a magnetic head using the above described ferromagnetic thin film in at least a part of a magnetic circuit thereof.

A ferromagnetic material comprising an iron alloy which contains 2 to 12% by weight of silicon and 5 to 25% by weight of at least one of ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, iridium, platinum, gold and silver, exhibits a high saturation flux density and good corrosion resistance. Excellent magnetic characteristics are obtained in a multilayered film which is obtained by alternatingly laminating the above ferromagnetic material and a spacer layer composed of other material. Further, a markedly increased recording density is exhibited by a magnetic head for perpendicular magnetic recording, when the end of the main pole is composed of the ferromagnetic material.
