Robust double-layered ANF/MXene-PEDOT:PSS Janus films with excellent multi-source driven heating and electromagnetic interference shielding properties

The development of electronic communication technology leads to a complex electromagnetic (EM) environment, which is urgent for the design of high-performance EM interference (EMI) shielding materials. In this work, cellulose nanofiber (CNF) and MXene were used to construct ordered multi-layer composite films with a controllable conductive gradient by layer-by-layer vacuum filtration method. Especially, the films were composed of four transition layers (with low MXene content) and one reflection layer (with high MXene content), which not only effectively reduced the reflection of EM waves on the surface of materials but also greatly increased the multiple internal reflections of reflected EM waves. Besides, the dielectric loss provided by MXene, and the coordination of polarization with loss at the interfaces contribute to the outstanding EMI shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) (39 dB) and absorption effectiveness (28 dB) of the films. And practical application simulation proves that the composite membrane can limit the mobile phone communication signal. Moreover, the nacre-like structure was constructed by 1D CNF and 2D MXene, resulting in high tensile strength of 90.5 ± 6.7 MPa and elongation at a break of 8.0 ± 1.0%. Therefore, this work provided a feasible approach for preparing gradient composite films with high EMI shielding and mechanical properties, which is highly promising to be a competitive candidate for the application in the new-generation of intelligent electronic devices.

The anti-freezing strategy of hydrogels and their self-healing structure are often contradictory, it is vital to break through the molecular structure to design and construct hydrogels with intrinsic anti-freezing/self-healing for meeting the rapid development of flexible and wearable devices in diverse service conditions. Herein, we design a new hydrogel electrolyte (AF/SH-Hydrogel) with intrinsic anti-freezing/self-healing capabilities by introducing ethylene glycol molecules, dynamic chemical bonding (disulfide bond), and supramolecular interaction (multi-hydrogen bond) into the polyacrylamide molecular chain. Thanks to the exceptional freeze resistance (84% capacity retention at −20 °C) and intrinsic self-healing capabilities (95% capacity retention after 5 cutting/self-healing cycles), the obtained AF/SH-Hydrogel makes the zinc||manganese dioxide cell an economically feasible battery for the state-of-the-art applications. The Zn||AF/SH-Hydrogel||MnO2 device offers a near-theoretical specific capacity of 285 mA h g−1 at 0.1 A g−1 (Coulombic efficiency ≈100%), as well as good self-healing capability and mechanical flexibility in an ice bath. This work provides insight that can be utilized to develop multifunctional hydrogel electrolytes for application in next generation of self-healable and freeze-resistance smart aqueous energy storage devices. 

An intrinsically self-healing and anti-freezing molecular chains induced polyacrylamide-based hydrogel electrolytes for zinc manganese dioxide batteries

Abstract The aqueous Zn ion battery (ZIB) is a potentially sustainable energy storage device. However, its performance is still far from satisfactory. Herein, it is demonstrated that a branched sugar, dextran, widely used in eyedrop products to relieve irritated eyes, is a multifunctional and universal electrolyte additive to enable high‐performance ZIBs. Experimental and theoretical results reveal that dextran has four functions: forming a surface protective layer to minimize side reactions, facilitating stepwise [Zn(H 2 O) 6 ] 2+ desolvation, preferably adsorbing on Zn(0002) planes to supply desolvated Zn 2+ and homogenizing electric field. These functions are universally observed in Zn(CF 3 SO 3 ) 2 , ZnSO 4 , Zn(ClO 4 ) 2 , and ZnCl 2 aqueous electrolytes. As demonstrations for practical applications, Zn anodes deliver Coulombic efficiency of 99.97% after 3400 cycles in an electrolyte with 50 mg mL ‒1 of dextran and cumulative plating capacity of 3400 mAh cm ‒2 at 5 mA cm ‒2 . Zn//V 2 O 5 full cells with a low negative/positive electrode capacity ratio of 2.18 can be stably cycled over 138 cycles at 1 A g ‒1 . Pouch full cells can work under mechanical bending conditions. Zn//polyaniline full cells can cycle steadily for 3000 cycles at 0.5 A g ‒1 at −10 °C. Dextran shows excellent potential as a low‐cost and non‐toxic electrolyte additive to enable safe and reliable ZIBs.

Boosting the current capability and reversibility of Zn anode for high-performance Zinc batteries

Epoxy composite coatings filled with boron nitride of single layer (SBN) were prepared through a dip-coating method. The friction and wear behaviors of the coatings were performed, and the results showed that the wear life of composite coatings was obviously higher than that of pristine coating with low SBN content; however, friction coefficients only decreased slightly. The optimal content of SBN was 3 wt.%, and the wear life of the composite coating increased by 179% compared with that of pristine coating. The morphology of worn surfaces was studied, and the wear mechanisms were discussed.

Multifunctional Waterborne Polyurethane Nanocomposite Films with Remarkable Electromagnetic Interference Shielding, Electrothermal and Solarthermal Performances

Ibuprofen is potentially toxic and carcinogenic for freshwater ecosystems and poses a serious threat to human health by affecting kidney function. The present study focused on the sunlight-controlled degradation of ibuprofen from water using a novel magnetically separable cerium oxide-embedded bismuth ferrite heterostructure. Catalysts were synthesized by solvothermal and co-precipitation methods and characterized by X-ray diffractometry, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, UV-vis optical absorption spectroscopy, and nitrogen adsorption. This study investigated the effect of photocatalysis, sonolysis, sonophotolysis, and sonophotocatalysis on the degradation of ibuprofen in water. Pseudo-first-order and second-order kinetics were applied to evaluate the rate of reaction for ibuprofen degradation. The addition of 5% CeO2 to the BiFeO3 significantly increased the surface area and pore volume of bismuth ferrite, which enhanced their photocatalytic degradation efficiency by 2.28 times in terms of ibuprofen mineralization. Sonolysis treatment alone and in combination with photolysis led to the degradation of ibuprofen, but with the formation of intermediate products. Positive synergy was observed when sonolysis was combined with photocatalysis in terms of the mineralization of ibuprofen and the degradation of intermediates along with their parent compound. It was proposed that, compared to photocatalytic mineralization, the ultrasound-assisted advanced oxidation process resulted in the conversion of ibuprofen to its mineralization products.
