The core focus of this review is to show how immediate and valid feedback, qualitative assessment influence enhances students learning in a higher education environment. With the rising trend of online education especially in this COVID-19 pandemic, the role of assessment and feedback also changes. Earlier the assessment part is not considered the main focus in learning and teaching in HEIs, but now with the increase in online education, it is observed that the paradigm is shifted toward assessing those activities of students that enhance their learning outcomes. A lot of research work has been done on developing assessment strategies and techniques that can support learning and teaching effectively. Yet, there is limited research that looks at how methods applied in learning analytics can be used and possibly constitutes the assessment process. The objective of this work is to provide an exploratory and comparative study of how assessment and feedback practices can enhance students learning outcomes using AI. The key contribution of this study attempts to capture an outline of the most used artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms for student success. The results showed that I-FCN performed better than other techniques (ANN, XG Boost, SVM, Random Forest, and Decision Trees) in all measured performance metrics. Also, the result of the comparative analysis study will help the educators, instructors, and administrators on how they could take the advantage of a data-driven approach, design less pressurized, more valid, reliable, constructive assessment findings, and connect the power of assessment and feedback to enhance the learning outcomes.

Artificial Intelligence for Assessment and Feedback to Enhance Student Success in Higher Education

One of the most critical aspects of quality assurance is inspecting products for defects before they are sold or shipped. A good product is more vital than having more of the same item for a customer’s enjoyment. The client has a significant role in determining the quality of a product. Another way to think about quality is as the total of all the characteristics that contribute to the creation of items that the client enjoys. Recently, the application of machine vision and image processing technology to improve the surface quality of fruits and other foods has increased significantly. This is primarily because these technologies make significant advancements in areas where the human eye falls short. This means that, by utilizing computer vision and image processing techniques, time-consuming and subjective industrial quality control processes can be eliminated. This article discusses how to check and assess food using picture segmentation and machine learning. It is capable of classifying fruits and determining whether a piece of fruit is rotten. To begin, Gaussian elimination is used to remove noise from images. Then, photos are subjected to histogram equalization in order to improve their quality. Segmentation of the image is carried out using the K-means clustering technique. Then, fruit photos are classified using machine learning methods such as KNN, SVM, and C4.5. These algorithms determine if a fruit is damaged or not.

Food Quality Inspection and Grading Using Efficient Image Segmentation and Machine Learning-Based System

The use of an automatic histopathological image identification system is essential for expediting diagnoses and lowering mistake rates. Although it is of enormous clinical importance, computerized breast cancer multiclassification using histological pictures has rarely been investigated. A deep learning-based classification strategy is suggested to solve the challenge of automated categorization of breast cancer pathology pictures. The attention model that acts on the feature channel is the channel refinement model. The learned channel weight may be used to reduce superfluous features when implementing the feature channel. To increase classification accuracy, calibration is necessary. To increase the accuracy of channel recalibration findings, a multiscale channel recalibration model is provided, and the msSE-ResNet convolutional neural network is built. The multiscale properties flow through the network's highest pooling layer. The channel weights obtained at different scales are delivered into line fusion and used as input to the next channel recalibration model, which may improve the results of channel recalibration. The experimental findings reveal that the spatial recalibration model fares poorly on the job of classifying breast cancer pathology pictures when applied to the semantic segmentation of brain MRI images. The public BreakHis dataset is used to conduct the experiment. The network performs benign/malignant breast pathology picture classiﬁcation collected at various magnifications with a classification accuracy of 88.87 percent, according to experimental data. The diseased images are also more resilient. Experiments on pathological pictures at various magnifications show that msSE-ResNet34 is capable of performing well when used to classify pathological images at various magnifications.

Breast Cancer Pathological Image Classification Based on the Multiscale CNN Squeeze Model

The goal of this research was to look into how artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques are being used in food industry and to come up with future research directions based on that. This study investigates the articles available on several scientific platforms that link both AI and supply chain from one side and ML and food industry from the other side, using a systematic literature review methodology. The findings of this research stated that although AI and machine learning technologies are yet in their beginning, the prospective for them to enhance the performance of the food industry (FI) is quite promising. Various investigators created AI and ML-related models that were verified and found to be effective in optimising FI, and so the use of AI and ML in FI networks provides competitive advantages for improvement. Other academics suggest that AI and machine learning are both now adding value, while others believe that they are still underutilised and that their tools and methodologies can harness the overall value of the food business. According to the findings, AI and machine learning have the potential to reduce economic losses, thereby supporting the food industry's efficiency and responsiveness.

Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in the Food Industry: A Sustainable Approach

Agriculture is an important component of the concept of sustainable development. Given the projected population growth, sustainable agriculture must accomplish food security while also being economically viable, socially responsible, and having the least possible impact on biodiversity and natural ecosystems. Deep learning has shown to be a sophisticated approach for big data analysis, with several successful cases in image processing, object identification, and other domains. It has lately been applied in food science and engineering. Among the issues and concerns addressed by these systems were food recognition; quality detection of fruits, vegetables, meat, and aquatic items; food supply chain; and food contamination. In precision agriculture, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a commonly used technology for estimating food quality. It is especially important when evaluating crops at different phases of harvest and postharvest. Crop disease and damage detection is a high-priority activity because some postharvest diseases or damages, such as decay, can destroy crops and produce poisons that are toxic to humans. In this paper, we use Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs)-based U-Net, DeepLab, and Mask R-CNN models to detect and predict postharvest deterioration zones in stored apple fruits. Our approach is unique in that it segmented and predicted postharvest decay and nondecay zones in fruits separately. This review will focus on postharvest physiology and management of fruits and vegetables, including harvesting, handling, packing, storage, and hygiene, to reduce postharvest loss (PHL) and improve crop quality. It will also cover postharvest handling under extreme weather conditions and potential impacts of climate change on vegetable postharvest and postharvest biotechnology on PHL.

Recent Advancement in Postharvest Loss Mitigation and Quality Management of Fruits and Vegetables Using Machine Learning Frameworks

Manual sorting of fruits was considered as a significant challenging for agricultural sector as it is a laborious task and may also lead to inconsistency in the classification. In order to improve the apple sorting efficiency and realize the non-destructive testing of apple, the machine vision technology integrated with artificial intelligence was introduced in this article for the design of apple sorting system. This article provides a low budget alternative solution for intelligent grading and sorting of apple fruit employing the deep learning-based approach. The automatic grading of apple was realized according to the determined apple grading standard by applying various stages of artificial intelligence platform like grayscale processing, binarization, enhancement processing, feature extraction and so on. The proposed end-to-end low-cost machine vision system provides an automated sorting of apple and significantly reduces the labor cost and provides a time-effective solution for medium and large-scale enterprises. In order to verify the feasibility of the scheme, the image recognition system of apple sorting machine is tested and the average accuracy of 99.70% is achieved while observing the recognition accuracy 99.38% for the CNN based apple sorting system. The results show that the sorting image recognition system can successfully sort apples according to the perimeter characteristics. It realizes the non-destructive testing and grade classification of apple and provides an important reference value for the research and development of fruit automatic sorting system.
