Technology has been central and has made service innovations technically feasible and economically viable. Top management support, however, plays an important role in shaping a firm’s service innovation-related strategies and decisions. This study aims to propose a theoretical framework that delineates the relationships among openness of technology adoption, top management support and service innovation within social innovation context.,This study obtained the data through a survey of 176 information technology (IT) firms in Taiwan; IT managers were selected as the data collection sources. A partial least squares analysis was used to address sophisticated data analysis issues.,The empirical evidence indicates that openness of technology adoption enhances service innovation within social innovation context. Furthermore, top management support facilitates the relationship between openness of technology adoption and service innovation.,The openness of technology adoption captures the interactions among top management support in shaping service innovation. Researchers should examine the nature of open technology infrastructure that will foster such service innovation from social innovation perspective.,The detailed findings offer practical suggestions for firms that are compelling to invest in advanced open technologies, giving opportunities for service innovation, solving social problems and meeting the new societal challenges. Additionally, firms may foster their top management’s positive intention to support service innovation by pre-planned support activities, such as allocating sufficient new service resources and qualified support technicians.,This study contributes to the evolving literature on the social innovation, service-dominant logic, and contingency theory. This analysis suggests that these perspectives offer a potentially useful view for integrating insights from different literature streams (e.g. openness, social innovation, service innovation, top management support and technology management) by examining them through a different conceptual lens, thus reinforcing existing findings.

Openness of technology adoption, top management support and service innovation: a social innovation perspective

In the paper, we apply small world complex network theory to analyze scientific research in the field of service innovation, and discover its research focuses. Our study considers the key words and subject categories of the publications as actors to map keyword co-occurrence network and subject category co-occurrence network, and compare them with their corresponding random binary networks to judge whether these complex networks have the characteristics of small world network, in order to find the hot issues in the field by the small world network analysis. We discuss the knowledge structure in the field through analyzing 437 papers that were searched from Web of Science database over the period 1992---2011. We find that case study, service industry, service quality, market orientation, new product development, and knowledge management were the most popular keywords of the field, and also show the dynamic development of the research focuses in recent 10 years. The researchers who made most contribution in a certain field are also found out. It is concluded that there were more researchers who did investigation about service innovation in the category of Business and Economics, Engineering, Public Administration, Operations Research and Management Science, and Computer Science than those in other categories. The study suggests a quantitative method to analyze trends of scientific research in a certain field, and presents some directions of research mainstream to the researchers who may be interested in the service innovation.

A bibliometric study of service innovation research: based on complex network analysis

This article analyses whether there are differences in information and communications technology (ICT) adoption among enterprises in European countries (full EU members, candidate and other countries) according to the ranking of countries at the Innovation Union Scoreboard (IUS) list. According to the results, countries from different innovation level groups differ according to: (1) adoption of the internal processes support within information systems, (2) adoption of e- Commerce and CRM, and (3) adoption of broadband and LAN. Since the Digital Agenda goals are oriented primarily towards closing the digital gap among individuals, the EU should also address active fostering of ICT adoption in enterprises in order to further improve their innovative capacity.

Exploring information and communications technology adoption in enterprises and its impact on innovation performance of european countries

The literature on service innovation has identified many factors that contribute to its success. However, the literature is fragmented concerning identifying and analyzing the critical factors that lead to success in service innovation. This article has two main objectives. First, we describe, analyze, and synthesize these critical factors via a literature review of the research conducted on service innovation. Second, we outline a framework that consists of the most influential Critical Success Factors (CSFs). The systematic literature review analyzed a sample of 317 articles published between 1985 and 2018. The analysis identified 16 of the most influential critical factors that are included in a proposed conceptual framework for service innovation. This article contributes theoretically with an analysis and synthesis of the success factors for service innovation and by offering a practical tool in the form of a conceptual framework that can be used as an analytical tool by firms and their service managers. Furthermore, this study identifies new areas for research in service innovation, focusing on discovering CSFs for service innovation in manufacturing companies, the influence of specific CSFs in organizational performance, or by empirically validating our conceptual framework as well as the impact of new technologies on success innovation factors. In the conclusion, we discuss the limitations of the research and offer suggestions for future studies.

A conceptual framework for integrating the critical success factors to service innovation

Wikipedia has recently become a popular platform for knowledge sharing and creation. However, the enormously increasing amount of editing has caused management problems with efficiency, accuracy, and convenience for Wikipedia administrators. This study, therefore, aimed to develop an intelligent agent system based on Web 3.0, the evaluation agent system (EAS), to solve these problems. The EAS is characterized by hybrid Web techniques, artificial intelligence, integration of management guidelines, retrieval of real-time information, and the transfer of cross-platform data and includes the following three systems: the testing agent, the wiki agent, and the rule-based expert system (RBES) agent. Because the RBES was central to the EAS, 29 university students were included in the study to examine the effectiveness of the RBES compared to the conventional approach to administration. The findings revealed that the RBES was better than the conventional approach in accuracy, efficiency, operation convenience, and fatigue strength.

An Evaluation Agent System for Enhancing Wikipedia Management

This study focuses on a project with benchmark significance in the Taiwan government's Web 2.0 plan, and employs on-site observation and in-depth interviews to explore how the government uses policies to help innovators obtain complementary resources, and thereby speed up the pace of service innovation and enhance the service innovation success rate. The results of this study indicate that the government can successfully intervene in the service innovation process. First, the government can develop systematic service innovation methodologies providing innovators with clear steps and principles to follow when determining target groups and performing service design and verification. Second, because most innovators are limited by insufficient resources and it is usually difficult for innovators to obtain relevant resources during the service innovation process, the service innovation success rate is quite low. With an eye on this, the government should actively clarify key issues that may be faced by innovators during each stage of the service innovation process, and can use various policy tools to provide innovators with the complementary resources needed at each stage, increasing innovators' chance of success.
