Crowdsourcing information systems are socio-technical systems that provide informational products or services by harnessing the diverse potential of large groups of people via the Web. Interested individuals can contribute to such systems by selecting among a wide range of open tasks. Arguing that current approaches are suboptimal in terms of matching tasks and contributors' individual interests and capabilities, this article advocates the introduction of personalized task recommendation mechanisms. We contribute to a conceptual foundation for the design of such mechanisms by conducting a systematic review of the corresponding academic literature. Based on the insights derived from this analysis, we identify a number of issues for future research. In particular, our findings highlight the need for more significant empirical results through large-scale online experiments, an improved dialog with mainstream recommender systems research, and the integration of various sources of knowledge that exceed the boundaries of individual systems.

Personalized task recommendation in crowdsourcing information systems - Current state of the art

Over the past decade, online crowdsourcing has established itself as an emerging paradigm that industry and government have been using to harness the cognitive abilities of a multitude of users distributed around the world. In this context, microtask crowdsourcing has become the method of choice for addressing a wide range of diverse problems. Microtasks typically require a minimum of time and cognitive effort, but combined individual efforts have made it possible to accomplish great achievements. The goal of this paper is to contribute to the ongoing effort of understanding whether the same success that microtask crowdsourcing has achieved in other domains can be obtained in the field of social news curation. In particular, we ask whether it is possible to turn online news curation, typically a social and collaborative activity on the Web, into a model in which curatorial activities are mapped into microtasks to be performed by a crowd of online users.

Turning social news curation into microtask crowdsourcing: a vision and research agenda

This chapter intends to address the needs and the involvement to support communities of innovation in the process of the generation of new ideas. The relevance of this document focuses on information systems and socio-semantics collaborative networks. The support of collaboration is not a new need to human activities in business. Nevertheless, it has major importance due the temporal limitations of the innovative context. In fact, having an idea is not enough. It is necessary to put it on the ground before the competitors. The authors conclude that technology can facilitate the generation of new ideas, benefit business collaboration, and help increase the rate and efficiency in the generation of new ideas, while reducing the time spent in the negotiation of consensus and decreasing the implicit cost in the overall process. It is expected to contribute to the (re)utilization of the innovation memory and to preserve the organizational knowledge.

The Involvement of New Ideas in Products and Services Innovation: A Technological Approach

This paper presents Job to Major (J2M), an opensource tool design to link job requirements with University of Southampton's major information. J2M currently provides two functions: suggesting the most suitable majors to potential students of the university based on the job requirements, find jobs that are closely link to what students acquire from their major. The development of J2M is according to Garrett's model which divides the application development mainly into three stages business goals analysis, system design and implementation. J2M build on existing open standards and supported by open-source of University of Southampton, Universal JobMatch provided by gov.uk and additional tools. The evaluation of J2M tries to show the functions achievement of J2M.

In a rapidly changing environment, selecting and effectively pursuing the right information and management system development can be a key factor in sustaining corporate livability and success. Open innovation systems enable organizations to look outside their company boundaries and gain new ideas and solutions from professionals all around the world. With the development of online social networks and other Social Web tools, the Web has become a platform for collaboration. In this paper we present a research on the comparison of open innovation website. The framework is implemented to compare existing well known systems of open innovation platforms (ex. Innocentive, Hypios, NineSigma, Yet2, Innoget, etc.) which are putting in contact, on the one hand, the seekers (companies, organizations etc.) which are struggling to solve their R&D problems and, on the other hand, a large network of potential solvers, who are more likely to have a solutions to problems. The aim of this paper is to provide a framework that can help in making decisions and in choosing right Website according to wanted paradigms in an Open Innovation process. The study concludes by showing how open innovation websites will play a significant role in growing the overall values of the firm. It is concluded that for organizations with time and cost constraints, analysis of open innovation system will be the most appropriate evaluation method. The discussion will lead to a stronger understanding of website differences and co-creating values with customers within open innovation networks.
