Background: The signature of a surgeon is ‘scar’. Skin closure technique should be technically easy, acceptable, speedy and economical. Sutures and staples remain the mainstay of techniques. However, the use of GLUE is increasing in clinical practice. Authors compared all the three techniques in terms of time efficacy, post-operative pain, wound complications, cosmesis and cost-effectiveness.Methods: A 2-year prospective randomized controlled study was conducted on 90 healthy patients comparing tissue glue, staplers and sutures in primary wound closures following elective surgeries in the Department of General Surgery at BRAMC (October 2015 to October 2017).Results: The patients in the three groups were analyzed using chi-square, ANOVA, Fisher Exact test, and results were formulated. Staples consumed less time for application with a mean of 53.3 seconds when compared to glue (103.97 seconds) and sutures (294.97 seconds). Glue gave best results in terms of less post-operative pain. Mean VAS score calculated at 12,24,48,72 hrs was 63.13,42.10,16.94,7.27 and at 7 days was 4.73. The wound ASEPSIS score calculated on 3rd, 5th, and 7th day. Cosmesis score on 7th day, 1st month and 5th month was calculated using modified hollander and VAS cosmesis scale. Mean score with glue was 5.83,88.90 and 96.13 respectively. Cost of material including length of hospital stay for glue was also effective with 3.47 days on an average. All the above proved statistical significance.Conclusions: Staples application is faster, consumes less significant time than glue and sutures. Skin glue gives the best results in terms of less post-operative pain, wound asepsis, better cosmesis and cost-effectiveness. The concept of tissue glue is a safe, attractive, and effective alternate over other conventional methods of wound closures following elective surgeries.

Wound closing is one of the widely performed and prominent clinical practices in the surgical intervention process. A physician or surgeon has several options ranging from surgical sutures and adhesive strips to fibrin glue for effective wound closure to close the commonly occurring surgical cuts and deep skin tissue injuries. However, all the commercially available wound closure devices have some limitations in each and another perspective. From the beginning of the late 90s, surgical staples got tremendous attention as efficient wound closure devices for their time-effective and sufficient mechanical strength, performance feasibility, fewer chances of surgical site infection and require minimal expertise characteristics in consideration of remote location. Even in the context of the recent COVID19 pandemic, the clinical acceptance and patient compliance for the staples have increased due to minimizing the chances of prolonged interaction between the patient and physicians. The surgical staples application is extensive and diversified, ranging from common external cuts to highly complex surgery procedures like laparoscopic appendectomy, intestinal anastomosis, etc. Thus, in this literature review, we try to give a comprehensive glimpse of the development and current state-of-the-art surgical staples in consideration with research from a commercial point of view. On a special note, this review also describes a very brief outline of the regulatory aspects and some common internationally acceptable ‘de jure standards for the development of commercially viable surgical staples.

Natural fiber reinforced biodegradable staples: Novel approach for efficient wound closure.

This work details manufacturing processes developed to integrate an unpackaged silicon die onto a paper substrate, as part of constructing a hybrid inkjet-printed paper-based circuit. This integration between rigid components and flexible substrates is beneficial in low-cost applications and capitalises on the advantages of both the well-established integrated circuit technology and the emerging paper-based electronics platforms. A superglue incline at the chip edge formed a ramp for printing the silver interconnects between the paper-based circuit and the chip pads. Two printing protocols are compared, the first a single layer using 5 μm drop spacing, and the second using a 35 μm drop spacing for three layers. An unpackaged RFID tag die is successfully integrated and is presented as proof of concept.

Background: A surgeon's signature is 'scar' [1]. On a regular basis, surgeons face various kinds of wounds which must be healed. The healing process and cosmetic result can be influenced by wound and incision closure techniques.
The Goal of this Research is to Compare 3 Skin Closure Techniques: conventional skin sutures, adhesive glue, surgical stapler. These methods will be used to determine which of them is superior in terms of wound healing and cosmetic outcome in clean elective surgeries.
Objectives:

To compare duration between closure by 3 methods.
To compare prices amongst the 3 methods.
A comparison of the cosmetic appearances of the skin after closure.
A comparison of post-operative pain between the 3 methods.
To assess surgical site infections after closure with these 3 methods

Methodology: 90 patients, undergoing clean elective surgeries, will be included in this study. 30 patients will be included in every group. Hospitalised under Department of General Surgery in Datta Meghe Institute Of Medical Sciences, Wardha. The study will be conducted between October 2020 to October 2022.
Results: The result would be undertaken in SPSS software.
Conclusion: Conclusion will be based on findings of study protocol.

A Comparative Study between Conventional Sutures, Staples and Adhesive Glue for Clean Elective Surgical Skin Closure

Objectives: Octyl-2-cyanoacrylate (Dermabond) is a soft tissue adhesive that has been approved for topical use to close traumatic lacerations and surgical incisions.   We review paediatric and adult human studies that compared octyl-2-cyanoacrylate with conventional closure techniques in a variety of wounds.Methods: Medline were searched using a combination of ‘tissue adhesives’, ‘cyanoacrylates’, ‘sutures’, ‘surgical staplers’ and ‘surgical tape’ for paediatric and adult studies comparing skin adhesives with other methods of wound closure. A review was performed using search results screened using predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria.Results: We found and summarized 17 studies comparing octyl-2-cyanoacrylate skin glue to conventional methods of skin closure.Conclusions: Octyl-2-cyanoacrylate skin adhesive produces similar cosmetic results to sutures and other current wound closure techniques while being cost effective, quick and easy to use. Studies suggest that it may be a preferable alternative to sutures.
