An Efficient Implementation of the Back-propagation Algorithm on the Connection Machine CM-2
Xiru Zhang,Michael McKenna,Jill P. Mesirov,David L. Waltz +3 more
- 01 Jan 1989
TL;DR: The techniques developed here can be easily extended to implement other algorithms for layered neural nets on the CM-2, or on other massively parallel computers which have 2D or higher degree connections among their processors.
The backpropagation algorithm on grid and hypercube architectures
Xiru Zhang,Michael McKenna,Jill P. Mesirov,David L. Waltz +3 more
- 01 Aug 1990
TL;DR: A model for mapping the backpropagation artificial neural net learning algorithm onto a massively parallel computer architecture with a 2D-grid communications network is described and how this model can be sped up by hypercube inter-processor connections that provide logarithmic time segmented parallel prefix operations is shown.

An Optimal Parallel Implementation of a Quadratic Transportation Algorithm
Michael McKenna,Stavros A. Zenios +1 more
- 11 Dec 1989
TL;DR: The implementation of a quadratic transportation algorithm on massively parallel computer architectures with hypercube communication networks is discussed, which is optimal in the sense that it requires effectively O(m(sub O)m( sub D) over P) operations to perform one iteration of an m( sub O) x m(sub D) problem using P processors.
Data parallel quadratic programming on box-constrained problems*
TL;DR: Designs for the data parallel solution of quadratic programming problems subject to box constraints are developed and the class of algorithms that iterate between projection steps that identify candidate active sets and conjugate gradient steps that explore the working space are considered.
