A data storage and retrieval device and method is disclosed. The device includes at least one magnetic storage medium configured to store target data and at least one re-configurable logic device comprising an FPGA coupled to the at least one magnetic storage medium and configured to read a continuous stream of target data therefrom, having been configured with a template or as otherwise desired to fit the type of search and data being searched. The re-configurable logic device is configured to receive at least one search inquiry in the form of a data key and to determine a match between the data key and the target data as it is being read from the at least one magnetic storage medium. This device and method can perform a variety of searches on the target data including without limitation exact and approximate match searches, sequence match searches, image match searches and data reduction searches. This device and method may be provided as part of a stand-alone computer system, embodied in a network attached storage device, or can otherwise be provided as part of a computer LAN or WAN. In addition to performing search and data reduction operations, this device may also be used to perform a variety of other processing operations including encryption, decryption, compression, decompression, and combinations thereof.

In on application, the auxiliary signal is formed as an array of elements selected from a set of print structures with properties that change differently in response to copy operations. For example, the changes make the embedded auxiliary signal more or less detectable. The extent to which the auxiliary data is detected forms a detection metric used in combination with one or more other metrics to differentiate copies from originals. Digital watermarks act as on-board mediators in authentication of a variety of printed documents. Finally, digital watermarks are used to help manage quality of the scanners used in imaging systems.

Disclosed herein is a method and system for hardware-accelerating various data processing operations in a rule-based decision-making system such as a business rules engine, an event stream processor, and a complex event stream processor. Preferably, incoming data streams are checked against a plurality of rule conditions. Among the data processing operations that are hardware-accelerated include rule condition check operations, filtering operations, and path merging operations. The rule condition check operations generate rule condition check results for the processed data streams, wherein the rule condition check results are indicative of any rule conditions which have been satisfied by the data streams. The generation of such results with a low degree of latency provides enterprises with the ability to perform timely decision-making based on the data present in received data streams.

A method of calibrating the response of the printer to an image described in terms of colorimetric values, including the steps of: a) setting printer parameters; b) deriving a printer response characteristic by printing a calibration test from device dependent printer signals stored in a device memory, the calibration image including a plurality of color patches, some of which may be repeated at a plurality of locations on the test image at spatially disparate locations selected to keep local printer non-uniformities from affecting both locations; c) measuring printer response characteristics in device independent terms; d) generating a memory mapping of device independent colors to printer responses for subsequent use in printing images defined in device independent terms. The calibration target includes a large number of patches generated from combinations of printer colorants, and may repeat some of those patches either on the same sheet or on a plurality of sheets at positions on the sheet which are spatially distinct.

The invention operates to recognize those pixels with a bitmap image that are appropriate for alteration and, in response to downloadable output values, adjusts the identified pixels so as to ensure a desired output.

An image forming device includes a toner saving mode that converts embedded pixels to a lighter density based on an embedded pixel template and an embedded pixel image data value. An embedded pixel is a pixel surrounded by a number of neighboring pixels that have the same image data value as the surrounded pixel. The embedded image data value can be predetermined or selectable. The image data value preferably corresponds to a black pixel. The image data value of the identified embedded pixels is altered to an output image data value corresponding to a lower density. The altered image data value preferably corresponds to a white pixel. The template used to identify the embedded pixel preferably includes a center pixel of interest and the four edge-adjacent neighboring pixels. The image forming device, when in the toner save mode, thus prints embedded pixel areas originally having a density at least equal to the embedded image data value at the lower density output image data value. Thus, less toner is used in the toner save mode.

A quick and efficient method of testing the color registration on a multi-color electronic reprographic system includes the generation a latent image of a repeated basic test pattern across and down an photoconductive surface. Several images of this repeated test pattern are generated, one for each color in the reprographic system. Each test pattern is shifted a fixed amount so that the final output page displays a set of output figures. A figure of one color will be surrounded by at least one figure of each of the remaining colors of the reprographic system. Using this system a field technician can determine the level of misregistration between all of the colors.

A system and process prints a high resolution image on a high addressable image output terminal by converting an image at one resolution to an image having a lower resolution in a fast-scan direction and a higher resolution in a pixel depth direction. The converted image is then processed and binarized prior to being printed on a high addressable printer. The system or process utilizes a conversion circuit which includes a two-bit per pixel packing circuit, a scanline buffer circuit, a logic circuit, and a look-up table. The conversion circuit initially converts the image into an image having a lower resolution in the fast-scan direction and a higher pixel depth resolution. Thereafter, the image is further converted to an image having a lower resolution in the slow-scan direction and a higher pixel depth resolution. This conversion of a high resolution image to a lower resolution is carried without any substantial lost to the image content data.

System and method for providing a high addressable printing system

A high addressable multibit screening device and method for use in a PDL interpreter environment achieve improved printing resolution and quality. A PDL interpreter receives a PDL document from a host source, which identifies one or more objects that can be fully toned (black) or partially toned (line art or images). Each of these objects can be processed differently. Fully toned objects are processed within the interpreter and directly output in a predetermined output. Partially toned objects are sent to a high addressable screening module within the interpreter for processing prior to outputting in a desired output format. The high addressable screening module screens the partially toned objects to obtain multibit screened data for output. This can be achieved by converting an array of single threshold values to an array of three or more sub-threshold values in a way that preserves the pattern specified by the original threshold array (one bit per pixel image), but improves the quality of the rendered image relative to the quality of a one bit per pixel (per colorant) image. The partially toned data is then output with the fully toned objects for subsequent printing. This achieves an increase in available tints and spatial frequency for a given halftone pattern while reducing memory requirements.
