Contrasting effects of potassium citrate and sodium citrate therapies on urinary chemistries and crystallization of stone-forming salts
TL;DR: Both alkali therapies are equally effective in preventing uric Acid stone formation because of their ability to increase urinary pH, and potassium citrate may prevent the complication of calcium nephrolithiasis in patients with uric acid stones, whereas sodium citrates may not.

TL;DR: Potassium citrate supplementation may be superior to potassium chloride supplementation in patients receiving thiazide in whom stones form, because of the propensity for the spontaneous precipitation of calcium oxalate in urine.
