An intelligent computer integrated maintenance system and method includes an electronically stored parts manual which contains a hierarchical listing of all parts in production machines, and a maintenance operations computer controller which includes a maintenance schedule management subsystem, an engineering change control subsystem, a parts manual management subsystem and a spares inventory management subsystem. The maintenance schedule management subsystem obtains a schedule of actual and planned production, and groups maintenance activities in order to minimize lost production time. The engineering change control subsystem integrates engineering change activities with maintenance activities to maximize production time. The automated parts manual is also updated to account for engineering changes. The spare parts inventory management subsystem orders spare parts based on predicted maintenance rather than on prescribed inventory levels. Production efficiency is thereby maximized, as is the use of available maintenance manpower. Engineering changes are easily accommodated and spare parts inventory is kept to a minimum.

A system is presented for a plurality of computer nodes in mutual data communication to execute logic in a coordinated manner The approach features aligning the definition of the time in the nodes so that each node has essentially the same definition of time; defining a schedule of communications for each computer node, with the schedule having future moments defined for initiating each communication; communicating each schedule to its respective node; and initiating each communication at the time defined in the schedule The computer network has a message carrier supporting multiple communication paths; a plurality of computers coupled to the message carrier, a clock system for maintaining time synchronism among the computers; and a scheduler coupled to the message carrier for determining the sequence of communication between the computers The message carrier establishes communication between selected computers based on the time-deterministic tasks being performed by the computers A computer node in the plurality of computer nodes executes logic in coordination with the other nodes by defining a communication request list of each communication needed by the computer node with any other computer node respective to a future time period, sending the communication request list to the master scheduler, receiving back a communication schedule back from the master scheduler, defining a local task schedule from the communication schedule, and then executing the communication at the scheduled time

Distributed computing environment using real-time scheduling logic and time deterministic architecture

A system for configuring a second biomedical device in the same configuration as a first device. The first device is configured as desired and then is connected through a communication link to the second device to be configured. A teach mode is invoked in the first device and a learn mode invoked in the second device. The first device receives identification data from the second device, such as the model number and software revision number. If acceptable, the first device compares individual parameters against default values. The first device then sends only those parameters which differ from the default values. The second device will then load these parameters plus the default value of the other parameters. Both devices will indicate a successful transfer of data by means of a display. If the identification data do not match, the first device will provide a prompt and no configuration data will be sent to the second device. The devices will issue a prompt if after a configuration session has occurred, the operator attempts to switch off the power to the device to exit the configuration mode or attempts to enter the teach mode without first assigning a new configuration name. Each device includes a continuously powered display for continually displaying that assigned multi-character name, even during conditions of power-off.

Configuration control system for configuring multiple biomedical devices

A system for configuring a process control system, e.g., a Fieldbus network, having intelligent field mounted devices coupled to a data communications bus. A software representation of the process control system to be configured is first designed on a computer. Using the system, a user selects representations of the various field mounted devices to be included in the actual control system. The user then specifies which function blocks of each field mounted device are to be used and how those function blocks are to be linked. The computer is then coupled to the communications bus of the actual control system via an interface device and the configuration and link data are downloaded to the field mounted devices of the control system. The computer can act as a bus master of the communications bus of the control system with the field mounted devices acting as slaves. The computer can also be disconnected from the control system communications bus and the control system will operate with one of the field mounted devices acting as the bus master.

Windows based network configuration and control method for a digital control system

A digital radio RF signalling protocol communicates either digitized voice or digital data signals and indicates the type of information being communicated to the receiver. Multiple repeats of control signals are provided for face protection and to ensure correct receipt even under adverse communications channel conditions. When the destination transceiver receives a transmitted digital data burst from the transmitter, the destination transceiver transmits a responsive acknowledge message and may specify in the acknowledge message which portions of the received message were received incorrectly and should be retransmitted by the originating transceiver. The originating transceiver determines the contents of subsequently-transmitted data burst based upon the information it receives from the destination transceiver by way of the acknowledge message. As deleterious phenomena (e.g., noise and/or fading) degrade communcations channel quality, the acknowledge message handshaking causes the originating transceiver to repeat incorrectly received data packets until the destination transceiver finally receives those data packets correctly.

Apparatus and method for transmitting digital data over a radio communications channel

A control system for controlling an industrial process includes a plurality of remotely located process control units (remotes) each coupled to an associated input/output device(s) and adapted to communicate with one another through a dual channel communications link. Each remote has a unique succession number within a predetermined succession order with supervisory communication-control of the communication link sequentially transferred to each remote according to its succession number to provide a revolving or master for the moment control of the system. Digital information in the form of data and control information blocks is transmitted between the remotes with the blocks transmitted twice on each channel of the communications link. The destination remote tests the block validity on one of the two dual channels and, if validated, responds with an acknowledgement signal (ACK) and, if invalid, tests the blocks on the other, alternate channel and then responds with an acknowledgement or non-acknowledgement signal (NAK) depending upon whether the data blocks tests on the alternate channel are found valid or invalid. A non-acknowledgement from the destination remote re-triggers the transmission of the blocks from the source remote. The system provides high overall operating efficiency since the remotes will maintain a system-like integrity on each side of a severed communication link and the redundant block transmission with alternate line checking provides very high information transfer reliability.
