A Web-based flood forecasting system for Shuangpai region

Despite perceived industry needs for developing a centralized contractor registration (CCR) system, such a system is still to be developed for a multiclient environment such as Hong Kong. A major barrier is that such a CCR system must be relatively easy to access to ensure that (i) contractors' information is constantly updated (by contractors), (ii) contractors' performance is reported promptly (by project teams and occupiers), and (iii) the latest analyzed information is available to any authorized clients anytime anywhere. A centralized multiclient cooperative contractor registration (CMCCR) system is proposed using web-based technology, which provides a powerful communication medium with a high potential for satisfying the above requirements. The conceptual framework of the proposed CMCCR system is presented, and the concept is illustrated through a prototype based on information collected in Hong Kong. The initial observations indicate that web-based technology is suitable for the proposed CMCCR system, and that the development of a fully functional web-based CMCCR is both feasible and useful.

Web-based Centralized Multiclient Cooperative Contractor Registration System

Quality management (QM) systems have been developed and used by many in the construction industry to ensure right things are done and things are done right the first time. However, current quality systems are designed to monitor and control the “production process‿ of a specific organization, with the QM data being revealed to the accreditation bodies during the auditing process only. As great deal of data is captured during the QM implementation, and much of this data is related to a construction project involving a multitude of stakeholders, there is a potential to convert the project-specific quality data (collected at an organizational level) into useful information for exploitation by other relevant project participants. The development of an Integrative Project-oriented QM (IPQM) system for construction would satisfy the stringent requirements of client satisfaction and continuous improvement as required by ISO9000:2000. In view of the fragmented nature of the construction industry, a tool that could facilitate easy communication of QM data between different participants is inevitable. The development of Internet technologies may open up new ways to ensure QM data is efficiently and securely transmitted. This paper provides a conceptual framework and prototype decision model for such an IPQM system.

Internet Based Construction PROJECT Quality Management System

An Abstract of a Dissertation Submitted to Nova Southeastern University in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Design and Implementation of a Prototype Toolset for Full Life-Cycle Management of Web-Based Applications by Joseph G. Gulla November 2002 The goal in this study was the design and prototype implementation of procedures, programs, views, schema, and data (toolset) for the management of Web applications. This toolset pertained to all phases of the Web application's life including design, construction, deployment, operation, and change. The toolset built upon key functional perspectives including accounting, administration, automation, availability, business, capacity, change, configuration, fault, operations, performance, problem, security, service level, and software distribution. The main problems addressed by the researcher through the toolset were the lack of support in a number of key areas such as keeping applications available and performing well, making applications easy to fix when they fail, making applications easier to change and maintain, and ensuring that applications are secure. The toolset addressed these challenges and at the same time reduced the impact of application complexity, the labor needed, and the skill required to achieve Web application manageability. Joint application design techniques were used for requirements and design activities. A rapid application design approach was used for toolset implementation, planning, and construction. Evaluation was done using a five-question survey that focused on input about the toolset's software attributes and technology, level of satisfaction with the toolset, and perceived contribution of the toolset to the organization. It is expected that this research project will be used as input for future service-based offerings for IBM's eBusiness Hosting line of business.

Design and Implementation of a Prototype Toolset for Full Life-Cycle Management of Web-Based Application

We introduce a light weight approach to support the development of parallel and distributed software systems over the World Wide Web. Our approach considers a highly distributed development process by multiple collaborating agents, it covers architecture design and architecture analysis right to implementation generation and dynamic accommodation of evolutionary change. The foundation of our approach is an architecture description language which supports separation between the independent development of loosely coupled and distributed software components containing multiple parallel control flows from the interconnection and configuration of such components. While the developer is provided with a local light weight front end tool for editing an architecture specification, a set of analysis tools are realized as back end services offered by specialized servers. These tools not only allow to check syntactic and semantic properties but also allow to assess a given architecture w.r.t. quantitative properties like performance.
