Integrated microring resonator as a perfect absorber
Enrique Sanchez-Cristobal,Daniel A. May-Arrioja,J. J. Sánchez-Mondragón,Rafael Guzmán-Cabrera,Hossein Hodaei,Mohammad-Ali Miri,Matthias Heinrich,Mercedeh Khajavikhan +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, an integrated microring resonator laterally coupled to two optical waveguides is demonstrated, where two counter-propagating waves of equal phase and intensity are launched into the microric resonator and eventually they get absorbed.
Optical Thermodynamic Properties of Nonlinear Topological Haldane Lattices
Pawel S. Jung,Fan O. Wu,Midya Parto,Yuzhou G. N. Liu,Mercedeh Khajavikhan,Demetrios N. Christodoulides +5 more
- 01 May 2020
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that a nonlinear topological Haldane lattice can exhibit a number of intriguing thermodynamic properties such as a metastable response leading to different temperatures in two bands or thermal equilibrium at different chemical potentials.
Monolithically integrated unidirectional circulators utilizing non-hermiticity and nonlinearity on inp
Parinaz Aleahmad,Mercedeh Khajavikhan,Patrick LiKamWa,Demetrios N. Christodoulides +3 more
- 05 Jun 2016
TL;DR: In this article, the authors demonstrate unidirectional monolithically integrated 4×4 optical circulators operating at 1.55 μm on InP. By exploiting the interplay between non-Hermiticity and nonlinearity, an isolation exceeding 20dB was experimentally observed with pulsed inputs.
Reversing the transition from an unbroken to a broken phase in a PT-symmetric dimer laser
Absar U. Hassan,Hossein Hodaei,Mohammad-Ali Miri,Mercedeh Khajavikhan,Demetrios N. Christodoulides +4 more
- 05 Jun 2016
TL;DR: In this paper, the order in which the PT symmetry breaking occurs in a semiconductor coupled micro-cavity laser system is reversed as a result of nonlinear interactions. But the effect of gain and loss on the order of symmetry breaking was not investigated.
Observation of Joule-Thomson Expansion of Light
M. S. Kirsch,G. G. Pyrialakos,Richard Altenkirch,T. Wolterink,Mercedeh Khajavikhan,A. Szameit,M. Heinrich,D. N. Christodoulides +7 more
- 09 Nov 2025
TL;DR: Researchers demonstrate an all-optical analogue of Joule-Thomson expansion, where light condenses into a fundamental mode, offering control over spatial coherence in multimode photonic systems through power-dependent optical "cooling".
