The moderating role of resilience resources in the association between stressful life events and symptoms of postpartum depression.

As psychological resilience has been increasingly recognized as contextually constructed, mixed methods studies that map out local ecologies of resilience have become increasingly common. However, the direct adaptation of quantitative tools for cross-cultural use based on qualitative findings has been relatively lacking. The current review aims to provide an overview of existing measures of resilience used cross-culturally and to synthesize the protective and promotive factors and processes (PPFP) of resilience identified within these measures into a single resource. A January 2021 search of PubMed for studies of the development of psychological resilience measures that excluded studies of non-psychological resilience yielded 58 unique measures. These measures contain 54 unique PPFP of resilience, ranging from individual to communal-level characteristics. This review is intended to serve as a complementary tool for adapting standardized measures for stakeholders requiring an assessment tool that is attuned to their context for mental health risk assessment and intervention evaluation.

A systematic review of cross-cultural measures of resilience and its promotive and protective factors.

ABSTRACT The psychological resilience and coping strategies among university students in Ethiopia have not been researched. This study aims to examine it among undergraduate students at Wallaga University, among 398 students. Data was collected using Resilience Resource Scale (RRS) and Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS). The total score on RRS ranges from 16 to 60, with a mean score of 49.12 (SD 7.06), and CISS score ranges from 41 to 105, with a mean score of 76.62 (SD 11.22). Rural resident (β = −2.042; 95% CI; −3.395 to −0.688), first-year (β = −7.0.32; 95% CI; −10.918 to – 3.145), second-year (β = −3.082; 95% CI; −4.971 to – 1.193), task-oriented (β = 1.046, 95 CI; 0.455–1.636), emotion-oriented (β = 1.936; 95% CI: 1.335–2.537) and avoidance (β = 2.881; 95% CI: 2.286–3.477) were contributing factors. Junior and rural students deserved attention on their coping strategies and psychological resilience.

Psychological resilience and coping strategies among undergraduate students in Ethiopia: a cross-sectional study

Generalized anxiety disorders are among the most prevalent mental health concerns for college students. Resilience, one’s ability to recover from adversity, is a critical component in reducing anxiety. The association between resilience and anxiety may be strengthened by positive college experiences of institutional support and experiential learning, particularly among underrepresented students. This study explored whether positive college experiences (Gallup “Big Six”) moderated the association between resilience (Brief Resilience Scale) and anxiety symptoms (Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7) among underrepresented college students (N = 430; 73.5% first year; 38.1% first generation) at a large public institution. Controlling for demographic variables, greater resilience was associated with lower anxiety (β = -.42, p < .001). Positive college experiences were not directly associated with anxiety (β = -.04, p = .45); however, positive college experiences moderated the negative association of resilience and anxiety (β = -.14, p < .01) such that the association between greater resilience and lower anxiety was stronger for students reporting more positive college experiences. The final model accounted for 21% of the variance in anxiety symptoms (F11,418 = 10.22, p < .001). Findings support a beneficial role of positive college experiences on the association between resilience and anxiety.

Positive College Experiences Moderate the Association Between Resilience and Anxiety Symptoms among Underrepresented College Students

Resiliensi merupakan kapasitas individu untuk mempertahankan kemampuan dan berfungsi secara kompeten dalam menghadapi berbagai stressor kehidupan. Resiliensi merupakan hal yang sangat penting bagi perkembangan mahasiswa dan layanan konseling sangat penting terhadap resiliensi mahasiswa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektifitas penerapan layanan informasi sebagai upaya peningkatan resiliensi akademik mahasiswa prodi BKPI. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Tindakan Bimbingan dan Konseling (PTBK). Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dari 30 orang mahasiswa yang digunakan sebagai sampel, 26 orang diantaranya menunjukkan perubahan lebih baik setelah diberikannya layanan informasi pada siklus kedua yaitu berada pada resiliensi kategori tinggi dan 4 orang lainnya berada pada kategori sedang. Dengan ketuntasan layanan sebesar 86.66%. Maka dari itu, layanan informasi dapat meningkatkan resiliensi akademik mahasiswa BKPI FITK UINSU Medan.
