Fast Health Interoperable Resources (FHIR) is the recently proposed standard from HL7. Its distinguishing features include the user friendly implementation, support of built-in terminologies and for widely-used web standards. Given the safety-critical nature of FHIR, the rigorous analysis of e-health systems using the FHIR is a dire need since they are prone to failures. As a first step towards this direction, we propose to use probabilistic model checking, i.e., a formal probabilistic analysis approach, to assess the reliability of a typical e-health system used in hospitals based on the FHIR standard. In particular, we use the PRISM model checker to analyze the Markov Decision Process (MDP) and Continuous Time Markov Chain (CTMC) models to assess the failure probabilities of the overall system.

Formal reliability analysis of a typical FHIR standard based e-Health system using PRISM

In this study, we propose an efficient aggregate signcryption scheme to maximize the security of data in a kind of wireless medical network named the disconnected or unattended wireless sensor network (applied in medical systems). These networks address patients who need to be monitored for a long time. The main challenge of these networks that are usually implanted on the patient’s clothing and established in sensitive conditions is that the server (station) visits sensors continuously. Moreover, the sensors must retain data for long enough time to off-load to the station as they have limited capacity and batteries. This disconnected nature gives adversaries the power to read and modify target data without being detected or disclose private medical data related to a patient. In this paper, we address these security problems and improve the first study of identity-based aggregate signcryption in UWSNs to achieve both key privacy and invisibility. Our improved approach is at the same time efficient in terms of space and communication overload. Moreover, the proposed scheme allows servers to efficiently verify and unsigncrypt all the related data accumulated by sensors. We further show that the proposed scheme has resistance against reading and modifying attacks. We compare our scheme with the best alternative works in the literature.

Achieving Key Privacy and Invisibility for Unattended Wireless Sensor Networks in Healthcare

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to first review the implementation of automatic identification and data capture) technologies in library/information science, focusing on barcode technology, radio frequency identification (RFID) and near field communication (NFC). This paper then presents S-Library, a new android-based application, to enable users to perform a wide range of information science-related transactions, such as borrowing, searching, returning and viewing transaction records. Design/methodology/approach – This paper presents the design process and the database and software components. For analysis, the authors used application testing, and also usability testing, with a questionnaire distributed to 343 users. Findings – The implementation of NFC technology means that S-Library has a number of technical advantages over other approaches. Towards the Design of Safety-Critical Software

Medical monitoring systems are useful aids assisting physicians in keeping patients under constant surveillance; however, taking sound decision by the systems is a physician concern. As a result, verification of the systems behavior in monitoring patients is a matter of significant. The patient monitoring is undertaken by software in modern medical systems; so, software verification of modern medial systems have been noticed. Such verification can be achieved by the Formal Languages having mathematical foundations. Among others, the Z language is a suitable formal language has been used to formal verification of systems. This study aims to present a constructive method to verify a representative sample of a medical system by which the system is visually specified and formally verified against patient constraints stated in Z Language. Exploiting our past experience in formal modeling Continuous Infusion Insulin Pump (CIIP), we think of the CIIP system as a representative sample of medical systems in proposing our present study. The system is responsible for monitoring diabetic's blood sugar.
