Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare holds great potential to expand access to high-quality medical care, whilst reducing overall systemic costs. Despite hitting the headlines regularly and many publications of proofs-of-concept, certified products are failing to breakthrough to the clinic. AI in healthcare is a multi-party process with deep knowledge required in multiple individual domains. The lack of understanding of the specific challenges in the domain is, therefore, the major contributor to the failure to deliver on the big promises. Thus, we present a decision perspective framework, for the development of AI-driven biomedical products, from conception to market launch. Our framework highlights the risks, objectives and key results which are typically required to proceed through a three-phase process to the market launch of a validated medical AI product. We focus on issues related to Clinical validation, Regulatory affairs, Data strategy and Algorithmic development. The development process we propose for AI in healthcare software strongly diverges from modern consumer software development processes. We highlight the key time points to guide founders, investors and key stakeholders throughout their relevant part of the process. Our framework should be seen as a template for innovation frameworks, which can be used to coordinate team communications and responsibilities towards a reasonable product development roadmap, thus unlocking the potential of AI in medicine.

Computational approaches for modeling and structural design of biological systems: A comprehensive review.

Medicinal plants serve as a valuable source of secondary metabolites since time immemorial. Computational Research in 21st century is giving more attention to medicinal plants for new drug design as pharmacological screening of bioactive compound was time consuming and expensive. Computational methods such as Molecular Docking, Molecular Dynamic Simulation and Artificial intelligence are significant Insilico tools in medicinal plant research. Molecular docking approach exploits the mechanism of potential phytochemicals into the target active site to elucidate its interactions and biological therapeutic properties. MD simulation illuminates the dynamic behavior of biomolecules at atomic level with fine quality representation of biomolecules. Dramatical advancement in computer science is illustrating the biological mechanism via these tools in different diseases treatment. The advancement comprises speed, the system configuration, and other software upgradation to insights into the structural explanation and optimization of biomolecules. A probable shift from simulation to artificial intelligence has in fact accelerated the art of scientific study to a sky high. The most upgraded algorithm in artificial intelligence such as Artificial Neural Networks, Deep Neural Networks, Neuro-fuzzy Logic has provided a wide opportunity in easing the time required in classical experimental strategy. The notable progress in computer science technology has paved a pathway for understanding the pharmacological functions and creating a roadmap for drug design and development and other achievement in the field of medicinal plants research. This review focus on the development and overview in computational research moving from static molecular docking method to a range of dynamic simulation and an advanced artificial intelligence such as machine learning.

Treasuring the computational approach in medicinal plant research.

The ability of a patient to take correct medicine at right time may be reduced when having visual or auditory impairments. Use of inappropriate drug intake can be dangerous and it is important that the patient takes right drug at schedule time. But it is difficult for the elderly persons and the patients with audio and visual impairments to carry out treatment process independently and correctly. This article presents a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based medication monitoring system and this system is a sub component of an intelligent pill reminder system.The goal of the intelligent pill reminder system in general, is to assist patient during treatment process at home and role of the monitoring system in particular, is to minimize medication errors. This system is demonstrated on GUI application with a satisfactory accuracy.

From Bit to Bedside: A Practical Framework for Artificial Intelligence Product Development in Healthcare

Much of the AI work in healthcare is focused around disease prediction in clinical settings, which is an important application that has yet to deliver in earnest. However, there are other fundamental aspects like helping patients and care teams interact and communicate in efficient and meaningful ways, which could deliver quadruple-aim improvements. After heart disease and cancer, preventable medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the United States. The largest subset of medical errors is medication error. Providing the right treatment plan for patients includes knowledge about their current medications and drug allergies, an often challenging task. The widespread growth of prescribing and consuming medications has increased the need for applications that support medication reconciliation. We show a deep-learning application that can help reduce avoidable errors with their attendant risk, i.e., correctly identifying prescription medication, which is currently a tedious and error-prone task. We demonstrate prescription-pill identification from mobile images in the NIH NLM Pill Image Recognition Challenge dataset. Our application recognizes the correct pill within the top-5 results at 94% accuracy, which compares favorably to the original competition winner at 83.3% for top-5 under comparable, though not identical configurations. The Institute of Medicine claims that better use of information technology can be an important step in reducing medication errors. Therefore, we believe that a more immediate impact of AI in healthcare will occur with a seamless integration of AI into clinical workflows, readily addressing the quadruple aim of healthcare.
